I believe they did the right thing.

Not apples to apples, though. His height impacted his Naval career opportunities. Hence the deal to allow him to be commissioned into the Naval Reserve.

Ah, no!

No, two different things.

Naval Academy - enlisted and this is your full time job
*Naval Reserve - enlisted and serve weekends, and two weeks a year

If you plan for a full time military career plan accordingly. Don't go if you are not sure on you motives.

Well, if we want to pick nits, Academy grads are officers, not enlisted.

Naval Reserve has full-time slots, too, just like other Reserve components. As mentioned earlier, Robinson did 2 years active duty in the Naval Reserve before starting his NBA career.

What if the Chinese military offered to pay him more than the US military?

I agree with Rubio.

Cameron Kinley, a newly commissioned ensign, apparently has an opportunity to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There have been multiple instances when military academy grads have been allowed to delay their entrance to active duty to play professional sports. David Robinson did it when my husband was a young officer. Generally, it is seen as a good recruiting tool and I’m okay with as long as the officer athlete is willing to commit to that recruitment mission. A lot of active duty officers, though, resent it.

But, aside from whatever other reasons Rubio gives urging Biden to intervene, given our current social climate, the reason they in particular need to do it in this case is because hints of what is going to be said if it doesn’t happen are already being written:

It is only a matter of time before are going to supply us with their explain of what it is different - Rhattigan, Laufenberg, and Silvanic are white and Kinley is black. Our nation does not need this and given that there is no clear explanation for a difference, and if it has to do with anything other than it’s a new blanket policy regardless, right or wrong the race explanation is the one that will hit the media. The optics on this one are bad.
Sorry Marco but no, he signed up to serve and got paid and a free education , go honor your commitments first then play ball.

He should be allowed to play football and then honor his service commitment. The reason i say this there have been other instances where it has been allowed. I do not like the inconsistencies in the policy. BTW I say this as a father of a service academy graduate who also was a D1 athlete and there was no professional sport for him to go to. He is proudly serving in one of our branches.

I can't help but think it is a good recruiting tool. People also leave the military for a variety of reasons.
