Question,

Do you agree that he should have a death penalty according to the local law? Or because he is American so there is no need for him to follow the same rules in a third world country?

I saw this in another forum and there is only one link for English version of the News.

When ever you go to someone elses house (country in this case), you follow their rules. He deserves the death penalty if that is their law.

Assuming he gets a fair trial, which is a BIG assumption because...China, then he deserves whatever punishment is customary in that country.

'Don't t do the crime if you can't do the time. Don't do it"

The only question would be if the suspect had diplomatic immunity.

If guilty, he should get the death penalty according to any law.

Yes he should face their law. Why should being an American help you if you have committed the crime? The US government sometimes intervenes if a US citizen is being abused in a foreign country. They will not intervene if you have done the kinds of things this man is said to have done.

He's not in America, so why would American laws apply?

I generally agree.

It does not stop other countries (like Europe) from refusing extradition to the US because the suspect might face the DP.

Or giving special asylum status to folks because they don't think the court system of the other country is just

Anyone who goes to another country has to accept that they are subject to that countries laws. It's amazing how many people spout the "I'm an American(or British or whatever defense". You always have to think about things like this when you go overseas. Heck used to walk over the border to Mexico about twice a month and even then you had to think about it.
