Amazon Studios has released an Inclusion Playbook that offers new guidance on casting and on-screen representation, in an attempt to "move the industry toward a more representative and inclusive future."

Goodness, I can't keep up. These dems don't care about world peace, the economy, equality and unity. They love their pronouns. lol As if it will save the country or make it better. I think all it does is make us the laughing stock of the world.

Amputation - acquired limb difference

Biological clock: In relation to birthing people

WASH inequality: Stands for water, sanitation, and hygiene. Women and girls face disproportionate inaccessibility to WASH; less likely to have access to hygiene products, clean water, and safe, enclosed bathing facilities. This makes them more vulnerable to disease, violence, and poverty.

Womxn: A newer alternative spelling of “women/woman” (pronounced the same) to remove the use of “men/man.”

Some examples of guidance under the assigned categories offer a glimpse into the increasingly progressive nature of film and television. Under the category "Personality Traits," the playbook instructs employees to avoid appearance-related stereotypes, particularly when writing female characters or individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, and to avoid common phrases such as "girl next door."

Instead of using terms like "feisty," "sassy," or "exotic" to describe women of color, the playbook suggests instead being more "specific." For example, the playbook suggests the following: "e.g. the lead is from Puerto Rico, loves to sing, and has a big group of friends."The playbook advises against depictions of stereotypical or traditional romantic relationships such as those that depict "Benevolent sexism," described as "an affectionate but patronizing attitude that treats women as needing men’s help, protection, and provision."

As we all know, it's impossible to attain world peace unless every movie studio calls amputees "amputees" and screenplays describe every Latina as "feisty." If even one production studio varies from this directive, the inevitable result is globalthermonuclear war. Thank god you spotted this in time!

Seriously though - are you currently writing for Amazon Studios? If not, feel free to call people whatever you want, as this playbook doesn't apply to you and (gasp) wasn't written by the Democratic Party.

I have a child with a limb difference and I think it's good that people are talking about these terms and representation on screen. It's not hard to learn new terms that are chosen by their own communities. If you can't keep up, get out of the way.

From the glossary:

Limb difference: There are two main types of limb difference: congenital and acquired. Congenital limb difference is also referred to as "limb reduction" or "congenital amputation" and occurs when someone is born missing all or part of their upper and/or lower limbs. Acquired limb difference is also known as "amputation" and occurs when someone has a limb removed for medical reasons, or accidentally due to trauma.

I find this glossary educational and useful. This is difficult to keep up with??

If only George Carlin was still around and still doing this routine....he would have more new material in past few years than he would know what to do with.... Shellshock became battle fatigue which became post traumatic stress disorder. Poor people used to live in slums, now it's economically disadvangted areas in the inner cities. lol

Well yes, you are the target audience. The rest of us already know the difference between congenital birth defects and amputations.
