So then, no transportation for anyone lower than upper class. Sounds like progress to me. The same kind of progress that was going on in Middle Age feudal Europe. The king and queen in the golden carriage and the serfs walking around barefoot.
Pretty much. And the residents of Canada's cities probably forget there is a vast rural expanse north of them where power supplies are limited or not even available. Someone living off grid that far north basically would have to run a dirty generator for hours to charge a vehicle. And the batteries have a more limited range in extreme cold.

why "encourage" anything? Why would you have to do that if it's better?
The only reason we're told "EVs" are "better" is because of "muh planet is warming" liberal BS.
Otherwise they SUCK!
Actually they don't, just our currently evolving battery technology does. Once a breakthrough in that happens, and transition from ICE to EV is seamless as well as traveling and or towing with one , they will be pretty cool.
Now as to which one is more "green", that is a completely different debate.

Kind of how they got rid of the regular, more affordable lightbulbs. It used to be four bulbs for a dollar. Now, it can be several dollars for one bulb, and the bulbs don't last any longer than the old ones despite what the liars said.
Surprising that NO ONE has factored in that in 15 yrs, there will likely be a LOT of progress made in battery technology!
Batteries should be much much better in 15 yrs time.
Battery technology moves at a snail's pace, they're not semiconductors.
Would love to see Iran, Venezuela, Saudi Barbaria, Russia, and other lowlife oil producers crushed by declining demand. But it seems a target of say 20%, 30% EV market share would make more sense. What happens if people still want ICE cars in 2035? Their prices would end up increasing due to lower availability or some alternative will develop, just like SUV demand soared after CAFE standards went into effect.

Not really imo...I remember the crappy cordless drill I had 15 yrs ago...now i have a Lithium Ion cordless drill and its 1000X better.
Look at it like this...its totally legal to use horse and buggy on most roads...how many actually use this instead of a vehicle though? (The Amish are the only ones I can think of).
2035 eh? Well, they have 14 years to build new electric power plants, and install charging stations all over the country. Oh yeah, and new dump sites for the millions of batteries that get tossed
There are already many charging stations, and EV batteries are recycled, not tossed.
