He expects to just start paying rent as if none of this happened, he seems to think it’s not his problem. I am kicking his butt to the curb the minute we can. I don’t care if the place sits empty for the next 10 years. He never tried to even pay part rent during that time, and that is what irks me the most.
Wow. This moratorium just postponed the payment obligation of these lessors, it did not eliminate them, right? If so, then you still have the legal right to collect past due rents for the prior 18 months. Are you planning to take measures to collect these past due amounts?

Why would she? The deadbeat probably has no assets, so that would likely be throwing away even more money on legal costs chasing ether.
The Supreme Court has ruled to allow the CDC eviction moratorium to continue until July 31, apparently because it is just a few more weeks and that will allow for a more orderly transition than ending the ban immediately would.
The vote was 5-4, with Roberts and Kavanaugh joining the three leftists. However, Kavanaugh made it clear in his concurrence that the CDC actually did not have the authority to issue this moratorium, and if there was any attempt to extend it, that would require "congressional authorization". So it appears that this is a one-off and that based on this decision, the real estate leasing markets will return to market rules and the law at the end of July.
Awful ruling. If CDC extends it, it will take months for a new case to reach SC again.
This is the most chickens*#t court I've ever seen. They'll bend over backwards to avoid having to rule on the actual legality/constitutionality of virtually any issue that comes before them lately.

Absolutely, but you can’t get blood from a turnip and part of the issue is the amount owed is over triple above the small claims court maximum level. It just stinks and there has been amazingly little discussion of the burden this created for landlords, especially the ones that own maybe one or two places and who lost their own jobs. We weren’t in that situation but it still hurt us financially. At least we didn’t have the nightmare of “all utilities included” like some.

I could have done without that reminder. Ugh.

It irks me that the government can ban eviction of non rent paying tenants but cannot also write off the mortgage / loans owed to financial institutions by the landlord for those properties where the landlord can prove that there was no rent. And then the government can print boatloads of the monopoly money to give to the banks, like they have been doing all this pandemic.
This is one where they have left the landlord holding the bag and taking all the risk.

Well, actually his CDC extended the eviction moratorium when it was supposed to expire yesterday. So yeah you should blame him for it. We know you won't blame him for anything though.
