I have worked for a couple of businesses back in the day where the owner would pre sign checks. We had one situation where one of the office staff wrote checks to pay her car payment and other things but put in the check memo that it was for business purchases. We caught her.
Just because Trump signed a check does not mean he authorized whatever his bookkeeper was doing. He might have but its not that simple. Also Trump has a staff who does the accounting. He is trusting them to do the right thing. How do we know he knew of any of this?

If you read the indictment Trump was basically keeping two sets of books one for tax reporting one to keep track what they were really making. It's not difficult to figure out how much someone is spending doesn't equal what they reported on their tax. Likely Trump and his kids were all doing the same eventually Trump will be charged it's just matter of time. This is accounting has nothing to do with politics. This is why Trump fought so hard to keep his tax returns private.
Sounds like they are trying to drain the swamp. I am surprised you would be upset about this. If a crime is committed shouldn't the person or business be held responsible regardless of who they are?
I think you are missing the point, this is not draining the swamp because it is more of a tax audit issue subject to a fine than a crime subject to jail. Almost all of the executives in any major corporations or even most government employees are technically guilty of this. Frankly, the guy charging this is probably technically guilty also. Basically they are saying that a benefit of value was not claimed on taxes - accepting a stick of gum would be a technical violation of this law. This reeks of desperation and is clearly being done based on politics.
that and "what proof do you have that he directed it?" An email, text, journal note ... even some background beyond "DJT signed a check for $50K cash for the holiday bonuses that was supposed to be shown as income".
Frankly, I'd love to see the leftists make an issue of greasing the low-level wage-earners palms with $500 at Christmas and neither Trump Inc nor the employee claiming it as income paid/earned.
Those low wage earners are more likely to be audited than these large companies.

Are you saying you are ok with Trump and company hiding $1.7 million in unreported income? They are tax cheats. That means we all pay more to cover what they are not paying.

And in breaking news today, Stan Scapegoat, a vile demon from Trump's Satanic Legion, was charged with illegally and blatantly parking in a no parking zone in front of the local community swimming pool. An eyewitness to this racist tragedy, with tears streaming down her face, was able to speak long enough to report, "It was horrible. Just terrifying. My little girl is still having nightmares. Scapegoat is being held without bail, charged with fifteen first degree felony counts. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Chaos has ensued around the county jail as protestors have constructed gallows, assaulted dozens of passersby and killed two, looted and burned several nearby businesses and homes, and attempted to breach the jail building with explosives several times. A county spokesman comments, "It's completely understandable under the circumstances. I'd be doing the same if I were not required to remain neutral in this matter. Scapegoat needs to pay dearly for what he has done to our quiet little town. And Trump is behind it all. He needs to pay dearly as well. This is 'Merica. We can't let this illegal parking bullchyt go on."
