Now, mind you, I love my pets. My dog is like my child. In fact, I went to the crematorium when my last dog died as far as the incinerator. I watched her little body fall into the incinerator. However, I find it very distressing when I hear of a US soldier cremated at a place that cremates pets. On top of it all, his family couldn't make it to the cremation. An officer from the Pentagon was there. He raised holy hell when he drove up to the sign that indicated something akin to Friends Forever, a pet crematorium. Good for him.

The Pentagon is recommending changes in the handling of troops' remains after it was revealed that a crematorium contracted by the military handles both human and animal cremations.
Officials now recommend that troops' remains be incinerated at a facility that is dedicated entirely to humans, in order to avoid any appearance of a problem. Or, officials said, families can have a relative's remains sent to a local funeral home for cremation, which the military would pay for.
