Between a lack of campaigning and low voter turnout, four time incumbent mayor Byron Brown failed to get the D nomination.

"Socialist India Walton defeats Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown in Democratic primary"

"UFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — India Walton, a socialist community activist, has defeated the four-term mayor of Buffalo in a Democratic primary.

The 38-year-old nurse and union leader pulled off the victory over Mayor Byron Brown with the backing of the Democratic Socialists of America in a campaign focused on affordable housing, health care and criminal justice reform.

She is all but assured to win the general election in November in the majority Democratic city. There is no Republican candidate in the race....."

I'm going to enjoy, from afar, watching this play out.

She was endorsed by a society of democratic socialists, yet your “(real)” appears to be implying that she favors authoritarianism like Soviet Russia.

She was not endorsed by the Communist Party USA.

She also wants to reduce a significant amount of the current Buffalo city police department funding.

'Defund the police' movement isn't why mayor wants to spend less on Buffalo police

The $85.3 million Mayor Byron W. Brown proposes for the police department is $743,139 less than its current budget.

India Walton, a mayoral candidate and community activist, said the city could cut about $7.5 million more by removing police from mental health calls and from minor traffic enforcement duties.

so what does she plan to do when the criminally insane and mentally ill people are attacking the citizens of Buffalo? She will create "a new response to crisis mental health calls that utilizes mental health professionals." So who protects the social workers and psychiatrists who respond to the violent mentally disturbed?

Expect things to get worse, and more Democrat flight, as liberal locusts flee from Buffalo to blue cities and states, and then vote to ruin those places with their leftist politics.

Wasn't implying that at all. The way "Socialist" is thrown out these days I wanted to make it clear, she identifies as a socialist.

No different than AOC (supporter) or Seattle city councilwoman Kshama Sawant.

Whether or not she favors socialist authoritarianism, too soon to tell.

AOC is not a socialist.

She's a Democratic Socialist. She said so herself, many times. Her policy is by the book Democratic Socialism.

Calling a Democratic socialist... a socialist is like calling root beer.... beer. Just because it has "beer" in the name don't mean they're the same thing.

HA! Things were getting bad back in the early 70's when the EPA closed down the last of the coal plants and millions were out of work. My family in particular fled and moved to Florida. The rest that stayed lived off of welfare or military checks, or in some cases, got involved with the Mafia. So I am not surprised the way things turned out.
