That’s not what poor Oklahomans are thinking about.
Rural Oklahomans are against anything that the Democrats support. Doesn't matter if it is beneficial to them or not. And when I say "rural" Oklahomans I am specifically talking about White rural Oklahomans.
Most poor people here that care about politics are part of the working poor and they thought that the Dems are going to take more money out of their checks if they expanded Medicaid (before we actually did it) or they felt like it was going to benefit non working people and not them. They didn't realize it was free money from the feds. Finally people wised up a bit.
Now of course your typical meth head type poor person couldn't care less as long as they can access the ER.
Cuomo would have lost in the last Governor election in NY had it not been for NYC. The majority of the state voted Republican, but unfortunately NYC has the population and that's where he sends all the $$.
No, "the majority of the state" did not vote Republican. The majority, just under 60% voted Democratic. Only 36% voted Republican. That's how elections work. You don't count trees or cows or empty land, you count the votes cast by voters.
But rural voters persist in trying to sell the lie that their votes count more than urban voters' votes do.

Yeah, true, and to further explain it, I think rural and small town Oklahomans are quite well more used to living with less, quite unlike their two big city neighbors. They are strongly against higher taxes and figure anything new that the government offers only means higher taxes. For instance, the biggest city in Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, never has trouble from the voters in keeping the sales tax up periodically in 8 year projects to pay for civic improvement projects. The latest plan will cost nearly a $1 billion to accomplish. Contrast that to my small college rural town in which the voters couldn't vote yes to replace an old, obsolete fire station with a new one, have new soccer fields or build a new fieldhouse at a park to play basketball. But then it wasn't named no. 1 for the best conservative college town in the nation among 29 others for nothing. But I would take that with a big grain of salt, since it had no trouble with joining OKC and Tulsa in voting yes for legalized medical marijuana and expanded Medicaid.
Like the two big cities, it soon got around to requiring mask wear that stuck after a failed first start that made national news. It was the only town in a county of 81,000 that required doing that. Buy probably city council figured it might as well follow after the university, which was also required it, along with the local hospital supporting it.

No, the majority of the state's voters did not vote R. The majority of the state's voters voted D.
The majority of voters in the state control state-wide offices, whether the state is red or blue.
If I were to move to, say, Mississippi, for some reason, I might have a lot to say about the state's politics. But one thing I would not do is whine about how unfair it is that the majority of the state's voters get to elect the governor.
There are no blue states. There re no red states. There is only the United States.
LOL, try telling that to the residents of Cimarron County in Oklahoma who voted 92% for Trump and got a highway in that county named after Trump. I love it, though, because if I was as profoundly full of it as Trump, I'd feel mighty dammed insulted that a highway was named after me in the most remote and sparsely populated county in Oklahoma. Only renaming I-44 Trump Highway where it runs through Tulsa could do. Never mind Oklahoma City. Trump just barely won Oklahoma County where Oklahoma City is.
Our state is a good example. Here in Washington the urban areas of the west (cities of Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia) are liberal and have most of the population. East of the Cascade Mountains there are far fewer people, but more land, and mostly conservative. This is why there have been movements to divide into two states. Based on square miles, this would be a red state, but in the last presidential election it was blue by 57.97% to 38.77%.
I wish we could stop misusing the word "liberal". Cities like Seattle and Portland Oregon, dominated recently by radical left activists, are not liberal. They are about as far from being liberal as it is possible to be.

Why do you say that? Someone somewhere has to be more liberal than conservative. And IME from spending last summer there, Portland tends to be way more liberal than our home in rural AZ.
