The practitioners of slavery in the United States were white. Period. So why in the hell should they get credit for ending their own evil practices?
You do understand that a very small minority of white people owned slaves(even the south never exceeded 25%)? And, it wasn't them who fought to end slavery.
So, what of the rest? Should they carry a sin that they never committed? Should they pay for a crime they never committed? What of European immigrants who came to the US after slavery was abolished? Are they also culpable?
Doesn’t matter that you wouldn’t call them Christians.
They were DEVOUT Christians....to the letter of the Bible. The clergy of all Christian denominations approved of everything that was going on. They were reading from the exact same Bible that everyone reads from today.
As for eliminating slavery, damn near every country in this hemisphere eliminated slavery. That’s nothing to brag about.
Credit should be given to the countries that never took it up in the first place. You don’t give credit to someone for stabbing you, and then deciding to withdraw the knife outta your back.
Black folks WILL NOT be giving retroactive credit for the end of slavery to whites. It’s just never gonna happen.
You do realize that white people, particularly those who were not even US citizens while slavery was still legal, don't care whether black folks give white people absolution.

And you NEVER talk about Africa who did the raiding of villages and TAKING the people to be SOLD into slavery!

Shouldn't black Americans be distancing themselves from Africa beaus it was Africa that did the stealing of people and SELLING them into slavery?
