“Haiti officials have pleaded with the US to send in military troops amid fears so-called 'urban terrorists' are planning to attack the nation's airport, gas reserves and port as the country teeters on the brink of chaos.”
We should support the government with information if requested but our troops and money out of their personal affairs.
I think sending $5 million as proposed, to help them boost up their own police force is a good idea; and giving them some know-how with technological resources to spot attacks on their airport and fuel infrastructure is a good idea.
But no. We do not need to be going in and fighting their battles. That's what THEIR young men are for.
I feel differently if there's a tsunami or earthquake or hurricane that, through no one's fault causes serious damage, and never resent the money and food and medical supplies we sent to poorer countries to help in their time of need.
But. Somebody's young men are going to have to reestablish law and order among their citizenry, and it's going to have to be them. Not us.
The U.S won’t help them unless Russia or China gets boots on the ground. So if they want U.S intervention they should probably reach out to them first, then the U.S will send unlimited money because that’s Chinese/Russian influence within 1000 miles of out shores. Geopolitics, in a nutshell.
And if we come to their aid, they'll give us what in return?
Heartache and resentment
