There's no quick fix. Ask anyone who has ever been in debt and climbed out of it: it's not easy. There's no easy solutions and it takes commitment and it takes time.

When times are bad, you can't expect to have your cake and eat it too.

Yes, money spent on education of AMERICANS is good...no, didn't produce all genius kids but it's at least spent on AMERICANS.

Nothing will end all poverty but letting AMERICANS sink deeper into poverty ...is that GOOD for AMERICA?????

Approving of spending trillions of TAX dollars on other countries may win elections but it doesn't help AMERICANS. Iraq has NEVER attacked AMERICA!

Uh... say you are actually making a point. What do you think would happen if we stopped spending on education?

I think he's pointing out that the public school system is a failure.

1. Not all public schools are failures.
2. Failing schools demonstrate inadequate management, funding, and overall investment.

No..

Failing schools demonstrate the government's inability to make something better by regulating it. Schools got worse after No Child Left Behind.

The bad outnumber the good. A few good schools doesn't make the education system great.

It's easy to put the blame on the education system. But if it was truly the education system's fault, then they would be the common denominator and successful schools would be extremely rare.

You probably haven't been to school in a while. I'm young and just finished high school a few years ago. What you don't understand is that these days, the stuff they teach in class isn't simple. I remember my mom telling me before that she had general math until college. Nowadays, you have Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc. The first 3 were required to graduate at the high school I went to. They say the low scores are due to the students being lazy, but they will always fail to mention that they make the curriculum harder every year. All in the name of preparing students for college, ignoring the fact that everybody doesn't go to college.

So many kids just don't understand the stuff. I did, but there were many people in my classes who studied hard and still didn't get it. I'd be willing to bet that anybody who graduated with flying colors in past decades wouldn't think passing high school these days is easy. Just attend some classes and watch what they have to learn these days.
