I think that should go a long way toward ending the "labor shortage", no?
I think it's more than just a labor shortage. Many of the supplies needed to keep a business going is also on back order due to the fact many of these items are made in other countries and many of these countries are still shut down or have travel restrictions.
The tide has turned. The labor force has the upper hand. And not handling it as well as they could.
I'd be more long term in my employment career. Not the money grab now ...to be on the streets next year.
A year without practicing a skill....leaves some below bar.
Business should hire on strength not on just filling seats.
when the unemployment perks, the stimulus checks and the eviction moratoriums end there will be no shortage of labor. It's amazing what missing a few meals and facing living on the street will do for you. Not every Mom and Dad are gong to allow them to move back home. The people with any intelligence and a modicum of work ethic would have been using this last year to learn skills to get a decent paying job. If you have been sitting on your butt learning how to kick ass on Fortnite well I have little pity. We all have a choice in life and if you keep making bad decisions sooner or later they catch up with you.
I thought it was interesting to see many restaurants around here, when they had severe staffing problems...instead of going to 'automation' like so many warned they would do...instead, they closed early and/or only opened on certain days.
Here they are keeping the lobbies closed and using the supposed labor shortage as an excuse. Last year many of them decided they would rather stick with drive thru/curbside only and are using this as the reason.
