There are very nice people out there, that have lived extremely priviledged and sheltered lives that just have no diversity of experience on what it's like in some of these situations.

They just see the headlines about police hurting people and think that the problem is the police.

I'm sorry but this is the dumbest idea. Dems are good at coming out with dumb ideas. They excel at it.

So gang members will be shooting each other at night and they send in a gang whisperer to stop the shooting. Y'all just aint' got your stuff together. There will be a shortage of mental health people now. Is a gang member supposed to stop and get on a portable couch and start talking about their childhood? lol

What would be an even better idea is to get these democratic governors some mental health help. They need it.

I mean you decided to see how a man with dementia would do as a president. How is that going for you? lol Now gang whisperers. Our country is going into the crapper but I look at the bright side. It's been quite entertaining with new silly pronouns, racist racist racist and everything else. It surely hasn't been boring. It's nuts.

I just can't stop laughing and shaking my head at this. It's so comical.

Good.

Sending in the assassination squad to a mental health issue has not worked. All these keystone cops know how to do is shoot stuff.

I can see it now...

Dispatcher: 9-1-1 What's your Emergency?

Caller: Yea there is a guy here holding up a Mini-Mart.

Dispatcher: Okay sir, it sounds like he may be depressed about something, so we will send out a Mental Health Worker ASAP.

Caller: But he is threatening to Stab someone if he doesn't get the money

Dispatcher: That's okay he is probably just acting out some aggression issues too. But we are sending a Paramedic as well

Sadly...the way things are going I don't think this is much of a stretch. I wonder how long before one of these "Mental Health" Professionals or an innocent bystander is harmed? Of course, I would hope never, but afraid the reality is going to be quite different.

Sounds like a good plan. We have a lot more people with degrees in social work than available jobs. This will get a few of them out of Starbucks. And with the inevitable OTJ attrition, those that survive may decide to make something of themselves. Besides they should work for less than police officers.

Mental health professionals and a paramedic will be dispatched to 911 calls in Chicago instead of cops following defund the police protests - as gang members now outnumber officers ten to one amid mass exodus from the force

How could this go wrong?
You left out the part about the mental health dispatch being limited to “ mental health 911 calls”.

Here is a better summary of the “ Alternate Response” pilot program:

https://abc7chicago.com/chicago-poli...call/10885437/

A paramedic and a mental health clinician will be dispatched for behavioral health calls while a paramedic will respond with a recovery specialist to calls involving substance abuse.

Some Provence’s in Canada have been using alternative responses for years to free up LE for calls involving crimes.

It is an increasingly common approach throughout the US.

Chicago’s mayor is strongly opposed to the “ defund the police” thing.

I just hope that the gang members DO end up dying in large numbers as they serve no useful purpose, in my opinion. The only problem is that probably many innocent lives will be lost, also.

P.S. Seriously, though, I wish that major newspapers and websites would start having a daily feature showing the photos of all those under 25 who were killed in the previous two days as a result of gangs. Maybe that will serve as a wake-up call to teens -- that, hey, maybe joining a gang is not the most brilliant idea.
Most folk don’t read newspapers, anymore and those who do have a tendency to scan a headline.

Most of the shootings in Chicago involve those affiliated with black gangs and their associates. . Sometimes this includes parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, children, spouses and squeezes. And sometimes a victim is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Back in April, a man and his 7 year old kid were in the drive- thru at a Mc Donald’s waiting for their order. They were ambushed by individuals who jumped out of their car. Father was wounded and 7 year old killed.

Then it comes out the dad has a long criminal history and gang affiliation. I am willing to bet he was also armed and under different circumstances, this might have been a gun battle. That 7 year old died because of her father’s choices. That other thugs pulled the trigger, is just a detail.

Police got lucky and were able to track down the shooters and arrest them. They have been charged by the county.

Anyone who affiliates or enables their children to, with anyone affiliated with a gang, needs to be prepared for a premature death.

The mayor of Chicago and CPD need to hire a PR firm to better manage their images.

That Mayor and/ or Police are blamed for the criminal behaviors of a sub set of the black population is insanity. No amount of policing is going to make a meaningful impact to reduce gun violence. CPD recovered 12,000 guns last year. Well beyond time to make gangs, especially black gangs in Chicago, public enemy #1.

While there is no shortage of Latin/ Hispanic ( the mighty Latin Kings formed in Chicago nearly 70 years ago) or white gangs in Chicago, the overwhelming number of gun homicides involve black gang members/ affiliates shooting black people.

Time to cut the crap.Don’t care your mama made lousy choices. Don’t care your grandpa and daddy were gang bangers. Don’t care about your lousy childhood. Pulling the trigger is a personal choice.

As long as these people are trained in state and city law enforcement procedures, sure, in an advisory position when it comes to law enforcement matters.

Until there are involuntary commitment and forced medication reforms the mentally ill will continue to be a police problem.
They just need to hire more police and have special units trained to deal with the mentally ill. I don't think dehumanizing people by locking them up and force drugging them is the answer. That's because I worked in a pych hospital for years and know how horrible it is.

Thankfully, I'm a couple hours outside of Chicago. I don't have to live through this stupidity. It's still my city and I don't like seeing it descend even further into chaos.

Yeah I can't imagine this ending well. Dems really really really wanted to try it, so I guess we all get to sit back and watch the train wreck in real time.
