Rejoice! Boston has revamped its exam school admissions process to lessen the impact of socioeconomic disadvantage. This is an important step towards equity and inclusion.

The new admission policy replaces a far simpler process that has been used for more than two decades and allocated seats to applicants citywide in rank order based on an equal weighting of their grades and entrance exam scores.
So instead of a school where students are united in the fact that they all got good grades and exam scores, Boston Latin School will have wide disparities, with black and browns at the bottom of the pile. Kids from black neighborhood middle schools who might otherwise have gone on to be among the strongest students in their high schools will instead be among the weakest. And they'll be taught to blame systemic racism for that. Rejoice.
