Americans are gloomier about the direction of the country than they have been at any point in 15 years, and Democrats hold their biggest advantage since early 1993 as the party better able to deal with the nation's main problems, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Despite more than eight in 10 now saying the country is headed in the wrong direction, coupled with growing disaffection with the Republican Party, Sen.

Bare-fisted capitalism has turned out to benefit only the well-connected in Washington and on Wall Street. The average Joe has already figured this out, to the detriment of the Repubs this coming November.

Yup, the Republican party has become pretty darn liberal, to the disappointment of many original conservatives.

But I'd rather cast my vote for a man who's at least put his life on the line for his country than 2 wealthy, spoiled entitleists who have been MAJOR beneficiaries of "bare-fisted capitalism," and who have "changed their minds" conveniently on so many issues that one really doesn't know if they stand for anything.

You need to become educated about McCain's flip-flopping over the years! That's what politicians do, flip-flop! They ALL do it to survive as incumbents. McCain is as much of a political hack as any of them.

Without getting too off track--never said he was perfect, just said he is more respect-worthy than either of (sadly) the best the Dems could bring to the table!

That must be because you value military service more than other kinds of public service. If so, that would be a bias on your part. You think that McCain's career as a professional warrior, following in the footsteps of his father and other ancestors, somehow makes him better suited ethically or morally for a political life? How so? In spite of the fact of his relative failure in the military academy, his well-known bad temper, his questionable political judgements (ties to Charles Keating and the S&L scandal), etc. This is compared with, for instance, Obama, a self-made person from relatively modest circumstances.

Go figure.

Self-made kook is more like it...

At any rate, this country is going downhill because of the government...their policies on healthcare, corporate handouts, war, the economy, trade, foreign intervention...all the problems we have are caused by government interference and meddling. Increasing the scope of government will only make it worse.

"all the problems we have are caused by government interference and meddling"

I could make a similar case that all major problems in this country are the result of the distortion of social processes due to very powerful private interests.

But a more educated populus should not allow private interests to corrupt a government, and instead allow true freedom and capitalism to reign.
