Sure, right, who cares, when you're in the middle of a mass vaccination campaign, what the results were in a different country that has completed the mass vaccination campaign? Why would anyone possibly care if it succeeded or failed? That's their country. It doesn't matter if theirs failed, ours will surely succeed. Science!
Again, the vaccine is supposed to prevent serious illness not guarantee against contraction.

Right, but the stated goal of mass vaccination is to get society back to normal at an acceptable level of disease. Gibraltar is fully vaccinated and still talking about lockdowns. That's failure. Why wouldn't the same thing happen here if everyone here chose to take the shot? Do you now see why we're interested in Gibraltar's results?
Gibraltar became the first nation to vaccinate its entire adult population on Friday, just over two months since administering its first vaccination, thanks to the supplies provided by the U.K.

According to Picardo, as of midnight on Tuesday, Gibraltar had administered 48,296 inoculations, including 29,667 first doses and 18,629 second doses.
The announcement from Hancock comes roughly nine weeks after Gibraltar administered its first vaccination. On January 10, the Gibraltar Health Authority announced on its Facebook page that Robert Durrell, a 93-year-old resident was the first to be vaccinated.
Given our successful vaccination programme, the practice until recently has been that a vaccinated close contact of a positive case no longer needed to self-isolate. That person could leave home as long as a mask was worn in all settings, and could even continue to go to work depending on the circumstances of the workplace.
The public is advised that those rules have now changed. The reason for this is because the Delta variant of the virus is more contagious and therefore spreads more quickly. This means that if someone in a household contracts the disease, the likelihood is that other members of that same household will follow.
Household contacts of a positive case are now required to self-isolate whether they have been vaccinated or not. The Contact Tracing Bureau will at first circulate a text message to all known contacts. This will be followed by a telephone call to each of them where the details surrounding the nature of the contact will be discussed, looked at more closely and new instructions issued accordingly.
In addition to this, the Government urges the public to follow the advice that has been given throughout the pandemic. This includes washing hands regularly with soap and water, or where not available, the use of hand sanitisers instead. It remains important to keep your distance from others and to avoid large crowds or gatherings if you are elderly or otherwise vulnerable in any way. It is still a legal requirement to wear a mask in certain settings, like shops and public transport.
It’s as though the people were never vaccinated.
And note the time frame – it’s been 4 months since everyone was vaccinated. All of this vaccine stuff is new and there is no long term history on the effectiveness of the vaccine. We are beginning to hit the same time frame in the U.S. Keep an eye out on the number of vaccinated people getting infected.
The population of Gibraltar, a British territory off the coast of Spain is 34,000.
It has not been disclosed which vaccine was used.
Appears “ break- thru “ cases are limited to the highly contagious Delta variant. No reports of hospitalizations or fatalities, yet.
The Delta variant was first identified in India in December which may or may not be the origin.
It was first identified in the US in March and is now the dominate strain. This should not come as a surprise given most restrictions have been lifted and masking up not required and the serious number of people who have not been vaccinated.
Best I can tell, those vaccinated and then infected are experiencing mild symptoms. It’s a different story for those not vaccinated, especially children. Unknown how many people are asymptomatic and spreading.
I focus on the hospitalization rates more so than fatalities. There is a huge gap between no- mild symptoms and death.
My gut is screaming we are headed for another rough patch and hope serious progress is being made on a booster.
While influenza is not a SARS virus, the annual flu shot is reformulated each year based on which influenza viruses are or projected to be dominate. Occasionally, the flu shot has to be reformulated Mifsud flu season because of a conflict between projected and actual dominate strains.
No vaccine is 100% effective which in itself in not a rational reason to avoid it.
Only 21/51 states plus DC have achieved at least a 50% fully vaccinated rate. Vermont continues to lead at 66.91% while Alabama seems stuck at 33.69%.
Some states struggle more so than others with populations not returning for a second dose.

That’s their choice on how to handle the virus. There are less than 600 cases. That is not a failure at all. Many countries are not like the U.S. and take a stricter approach. Why are you mad about it?

So even a fully vaccinated population who wears masks whenever they leave their homes can still get and spread covid.
I hope this ends the unrealistic expectation that everyone must get the vaccine, including low risk children to protect others.
Meanwhile - the reaction is to return to near lockdown status. Why? There should be no severe reactions for the vaccinated. So why bother with all of the hand washing and isolation over supposedly minor symptoms?
Everyone is reacting like chickens with their heads cut off about the vaccine. What's the goal of the vaccine? Eliminate COVID? Limit the damage? Maybe if the goal is clearly defined, we can know what to expect.
Good points.
If it’s mild for those who contract it due to their vaccine status then it should be treated like a cold and life should go on.

I am not mad, but I am mobilized to make sure the clown show of vaccinating every adult in the entire country and still talking about lockdowns doesn't happen here. And honestly, I think the best way to prevent that is just to refuse the vaccine if you're not at risk. If there's no end game, why participate?

Can you imagine how much worse it would be if only half the population were vaccinated and nobody wore masks? Oh, that sounds like the US. Buckle up everyone. This is not over yet.

I agree with you completely. The only difference being I am mad at people who think it is ok to keep locking down.
