Cubans used to differentiate in the social or economic classes. Like Celia Cruz, color was accepted - just needed money. However, truth be told- other countries do not like America’s Black community at all.

So is that why Black-American entertainers, athletes and civil rights leaders are so influential around the world?

Did Socialism Make Racial Groups Equal In Cuba?

Yes.

Equally impoverished and miserable.

Is the U.S embargo getting overly blamed for Cuba's problems?

Cuba can trade with all other countries. So if Cuba can trade with all other countries why aren't Cubans benefiting from that trade?

Same as socialism always does. A few elites have everything, everybody else has nothing.
So very true. Equally oppressed, equally hungry, equally unfree.

I can’t fathom what draws people to this failed ideology.

It's why they're all trying to leave.

If the GOP hadn't fallen for Trump's populist garbage, they'd realize that the more Nicaraguans, Venezuelans, and Cubans come here, the more future Republican voters they'd have.

Dunno about Cuba, but would be surprised to hear of much 'discrimination' anywhere in the Caribbean, with its own history of slavery, and an even longer tradition of 'free peoples'. Not to mention that the majority populations, and cultures, of most Caribbean countries have long been of overwhelmingly African descent.

BTW, Cuban 'Santeria' (aka, 'voodoo') was 'imported' straight from West Africa!

I wonder how much of this has to do with Catholic countries vs Protestant countries?

It seems Africans who were shipped to Catholic countries were able to maintain more African religious traditions compared to those sent to Protestant countries. I guess it was because they were able to use Catholic saints to disguise their African deities. Those sent to Protestant countries couldn't do this since Protestants don't worship saints.

Not at all. I highly doubt she has traveled through the Americas enough to make that determination. There are even other “biracial” Caribbean islands that are better off than Cuba in that department.

Opportunities are better than they were in the past for Afro-Cubans but Cuba is not a model for the rest of the Americas either.
