I saw a video a few months ago that I believe was taped in 2017-18 of Fauci stating that Trump will face a pandemic never before seen. The time I saw this video my jaw dropped thinking why isn't this bigger news than just a blurb?

There have been coronaviruses for years. The Covid 19 variant that they called novel (apparently means 'new' in science speak) was not anticipated. But coronaviruses themselves were and scientists had been researching them since previous outbreaks. This is why they were able to develop vaccines so quickly.

Also- every president for the last quarter century has been surprised by an infectious disease outbreak. Its akin to predicting a Southern governor will have to deal with a hurricane...

Hurricanes happen every year, 600,000 Americans dead from a pandemic predicted by Howdy Doody and others. Happens every year, business as usual.

Oh, I wish SO much that someone would find and post this video -- but even if it existed in some kind of public domain, I doubt very much that it is still there.

Btw, Janet Napolitano also said something about her successor to the position of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security (2009-2013) would be facing a headache of epic proportions,, or something along that line? (It was so long ago, that I don't remember her exact words, but just that many people were "freaking out" over them.) At the time, from what I gathered by reading, most people were listing various possibilities including a major computer hack, or an EMP, or a major earthquake -- but I don't recall anyone thinking that the next HUGE "challenge" for the U.S. would be a pandemic!

Fauci's speech and warning was more circumspect than that. It leaves room for interpretation.

"During a forum on pandemic preparedness at Georgetown University, Fauci said the Trump administration will not only be challenged by ongoing global health threats such as influenza and HIV, but also a surprise disease outbreak.

“The history of the last 32 years that I have been the director of the NIAID will tell the next administration that there is no doubt they will be faced with the challenges their predecessors were faced with,” he said.

While observers have speculated since his election about how Trump will respond to such challenges, Fauci and other health experts said Tuesday that preventing disease pandemics often starts overseas and that a proper response means collaboration between not only the U.S. and other countries, but also the public and private health sectors.

“We will definitely get surprised in the next few years,” he said.

There's a pandemic about every 20 years. The last one was in 2003. Fauci was right to warn there could be one in 2017-2025 as many assume that a successful president will serve two terms. It doesn't necessarily mean that it will have a significant impact in the United States. In fact, many assumed COVID would be like SARS and go away.

Problem with the gain-of-function experiment theory is that the furin cleavage site on SARS-COVID-19 won't stay intact and there are still over 1000 other DNA that have to be modified to get SARS-COVID-19 virus. The result will neither be the coronavirus that's going around or have the capability to infect human cells.
