These vaccines have only been around a short time. It is still to be determined how long the protection will last. Once that is determined it may be on a schedule like the tetanus vaccine.
That’s not evidence. This is not a normal vaccine and covid is a virus that mutates rapidly like flu. In addition, evidence shows efficacy doesn’t last long at all.
Maybe because you're a Viking used to more brutal times that you can't tell the difference between:
Let's prevent the spread of Covid because it may kill a loved one
VS
Let's prevent the spread of Covid because it will end our species
I was never worried about the possibility of #2. But there is a whole host of things worthy of action that don't amount to extinction events. I suppose you have a quota of a number of deaths before we should lift a finger and Covid so far has disappointed.
That is where humanities greatest weakness lies imo - the need to end suffering blinding us to certain realities.
The certain reality being that the advances made in virology/vaccines, are also advancing us to the point where an individual may be able to create a true super virus.
For crying out loud. Get vaccinated so we can go back to normal. Thank you.
I'm glad this was posted. It's such a simple comment but yet it says quite a lot. It's really easy, just get vaccinated and everything will be okay. A good insight into how a majority of people think.
The reality is there will never be 100% compliance so the goal posts will always move. If you can't vaccinate an infant then that will be reason to wear masks and lockdown. If you can't vaccinate an organ transplant recipient then that is all you need to mask up and lock down. And what if the virus mutates? another reason to mask up and lock down.
So the line will never be clear on what the threshold is because really every life should matter, and one death is just way too many.
What about our obligations to others? If you disagree you lack empathy and are selfish.
