The clear majority of Americans support school choice including the majority of black Americans.

Yet in many deep blue areas school choice is heavily restricted by Democrats in the name of protecting black students, when most black parents want school of choice.

Freedom.

What this really is, is Democrats bending over backwards to protect the teacher unions that donate huge sums to their campaign reelections.

Polls from 2020 and 2021:

81% of Americans support school choice including 89% of blacks.

74% of Americans support school choice and just 16% oppose. This includes 73% of blacks.

71% of Americans support school choice including 66% of blacks. 65% of Americans support parents getting per pupil funding for public, private, or home schooling.

No one is stopping anyone from choosing their school. You are free to choose any private school you want.

Can't have the kiddies learning anything that is actually of worth. How can you indoctrinate a child when he or she is not in the indoctrination centers?

We just need to fund the vouchers for the less fortunate, so their parents can make the same choices Gavin Newsom and Elizabeth Warren did for their kids. The teachers unions now run public schools for their benefit, not the kids.

California GOP Gubernatorial Candidate, who grew up in South Central LA and is Black, is a huge proponent of this. Time to break the education monopoly and make schools compete.

Blah blah Democrats blah blah freedom.

I’m not sure why it isn’t just a bedrock given that we have choices for schools. Public-sector unions and politics aside, it seems very much in the American spirit to promote school choice.

If you look at the history of public schooling in the US, it’s readily apparent that the Prussian model of schooling is outdated at best and is pretty flawed just from the outset. The fact that we all just accept it seems pretty unhealthy to me.

Then again, I’m the radical who listens to folks like Thaddeus Russell on stuff like this.

No one is stopping you from sending your kids to the school of your choice.

Your post smacks of white privilege.

Many blue areas don't want people to even transfer to a different public school.

Many poor people, disproportionately black and brown, can't afford private schools.

I stand up for the rights of children to attend the school of their choice. You stand up for protecting teacher unions because they donate a lot to Democrats, nice.

Liberals want to keep black in the Plantation Schools. If they go to the Free Man's Schools they might catch on that they are being used as political pawns.

School choice has multiple definitions, choice of public school, a voucher for private school and paying a parent or legal guardian to teach their own.

Public school choice has been in existence in Chicago since the late 80’s. Parents are responsible for getting their children to/ from school.

White students are now a minority in all of the city’s public schools. Parents increasingly demand door to door bus service.

At the same time, the number of public magnet schools has expanded including the highly selective public magnet high schools, among the best schools in the US.

I have no doubt many parents would love a subsidy to send their children to a faith based school, no different than parents being paid to teach their own, regardless of their skill or qualification to do so.
