Just saw on Twitter that the private school Ron DeSantis' kids go to requires masks. Mandatory mask mandate at the school for his kids. How interesting.

More "Do as a I say, not as I do" from braindead republican politicians. DeSantis pandered to anti-mask conservatives with his statewide banning of mask mandates in schools...yet the school HE SENDS HIS OWN KIDS TO has a mask mandate.

What’s frustrating is we have a big problem that’s is going to get worse and all some can think of is pointing a finger and spreading lies.

According to your own link, Florida is the #1 state for Columbians, #2 state for Guatemalans and #3 for Dominicans. The fact that you still believe it is only Mexicans crossing the border is rather sad.

Exactly. It is just another BS article that treats cases as synonymous with hospitalizations, which they are not. I would hardly call 61 ICU beds in a hospital of 1041 beds as being "overrun" - not in a state with over 21 million people.

Not only do I agree, but it would not surprise me if this administration sent them without the state requesting them to create more fear porn against DeSantis.

I am not saying that is the case, just that it would not surprise me.

The all important metric deaths... Florida is 25 out of 50.

Sorry if that's all you got. There's a discussion to be had, but you just keep being intellectually lazy.

We're probably done.

The Colombians have been here legally for a longtime- South Florida had long been a safe haven for the upper class of that country and they're one off the top foreign investors in the state- gotta have a pleasant place to bug out to when things get tense in Cali. The upper middle class there also keeps valid tourist visas so that they can do shopping trips to South Florida.

And the legal Columbians are actually the biggest spreaders of covid in South Florida right now. The Colombian variant was 10% of estimated cases in South Florida at this point when it was not seen at all in Mexico or Central America. Meaning it came on on multiple daily flights by legal residents or those on legal tourist visas on the daily flights from Bogota.

If DeSantis was serious about, you know, actually stopping covid spread, he'd be calling for a Colombia travel ban because that's a major source of spread in the state, pre-departure covid tests or not. But he doesn't actually care about covid infections outside of his presidential run so he makes up stuff about illegals instead of talking about a real problem.

Dominicans- I'm not sure how they' be getting here illegally. I mean they've never been boat people like the Cubans have and while overstay on a tourist visa after getting here by plane is definitely possible (I've got people in my family tree that have gone that route) it's gonna be a low numbers situation.

There are all of about 100K Guatemalans in Florida, which is a rounding error when it comes to state demographics.

A state governor is not able to restrict international travelers... but you're kinda right, if Joe Biden cared he'd do "something".
