Just no. Letting some people live rent free while others continue to pay their rent is basically unfair. I could have made more money staying home and collecting UI and the bonus if I had not been able to work from home. Seems very unfair that those who were able to earn more than me (by doing nothing) also got away with spending less on their housing. If Congress votes to extend the moratorium it will be just one more straw that will eventually break the camels back.

....here's the over the top....slime ball....twist to it that most people are missing

They didn't give them rent free....what they did was give them a moratorium on paying rent
..in other words....they still owe that back rent....their rent wasn't excused

Not a one of them will pay it...or even be able to pay it

but by doing it that way....they left the landlords holding the bill...the landlords still have to pay all their expenses...upkeep...all of it...because the tenants still owe that money.....and the landlords could not evict them

That program was always going to be a problem when it came to an end. It's unfortunate, but some people are going to end up on the short end of the stick. The landlords will also be scr*ewed because they don't get paid.

It's blatant theft. Eviction is the leverage landlords have against rent theft but it is usually just the tenant doing the stealing, now it is the tenant supported by the government. And somehow you have the victim being bashed through this (evil landlords).

Scratching head here.

Yikes, talk about a man with no sympathy. No wonder 50% of Americans ignore him and refuse to get a vaccine, he has yet to make any good decision and has broken every promise. I can see the buyers remorse from Democrats now.

Let’s review:

3/ 2020- The CARES Act imposed moratorium on federally regulated properties.

7/2000- CDC - extended twice

12/2000- Congress extended to 1/31/2021

1/2021- CDC extends deadline

3/2021- CDC extends again

7/2021- SCOTUS says enough with CDC

Countries all over the US have imposed their own moratoriums.

What would you have Biden do?

CDC cannot extend moratorium.

Millions are not going to be tossed out this weekend. In the US, eviction requires a hearing and court order and grants the right of appeal. It will take years for cases to work their way through the courts. In the meantime, some tenants will remain in place without having paid a cent for 1.5 years.

It’s fascinating how states have thresholds for felony retail theft ranging from $250- $2500, and yet a tenant can take the use of a residence for months- years and worst case, leave the day before a very protracted eviction occurs, without being charged with a crime.

Yes, you are correct. Two realtor friends predict the same outcome.
This country will be in a depression by the end of 2021.

Why should any property owner be required to allow anyone to occupy their property without payment in full and on time?

Not likely going to be another 2008-2010 foreclosure cycle.

The protraction of record low mortgage interest rates has goosed real estate markets.

This cycle, individual landlords tend to have equity which was not the case during the bubble.

Landlords who accepted Section 8 vouchers have been paid on time, all along.

No shortage of landlords cut their losses and paid non- paying tenants to leave.

County moratoriums throughout the country add another layer of complexity and protraction to the Federal moratoriums.

Sounds a tad like wishful thinking.

Sorry Rocko the socialist, but here in the US you cannot keep private companies from charging for their product indefinitely to suit your whims.
