Elections have consequences. Over 6 million people are due to be evicted with the moratorium coming to an end. This post is not to argue who should and who shouldn't be evicted. It's to point out the fact that when it's vacation time or even a day or two early, it's time for the congress critters to punch the timeclock regardless of what looms for the people (once again). Silence from Biden, Pelosi, Kamala, and all the big dem players (except Cori Bush who slept on the capitol steps in protest of Congress ending session). Worse yet, the states were issued ~$25 Billion for rent relief and less than 12% of it has been distributed. Empty promises from a socialist leaning regime once again.....imagine that!

And WHAT are we hearing from the other side of the aisle?
My morning paper informs me of the rental property owned by mom and pop investors is being bought up by multi billion dollar firms. One 5 billion company intends to by 18,000 rental units for cash. One of their investors is a Texas state retirement fund. What's up with that?
With millions of landlords facing bankruptcy, Congress goes on vacation.
Whatever you want to call it. Neither is a good thing.
Landlords shouldn't have to foot the bill, people that can get jobs should be. But the root of the problem is the Chinavirus and they should be getting the bill for this one IMO.
This is the least surprising news of all time. Nothing gets in the way of congress and their vacations, regardless of which side of the coin currently holds 'power'.

Without forcing the landlords or the taxpayers to provide free housing, congress goes on vacation.

People were evicted everyday across the nation before Covid. Some of these people continued to work but because of the moratorium decided not to pay rent like the mayoral candidate in Seattle. Then there were some that became unemployed - collecting not only unemployment but the additional benefit from the gov't. They also had access too food stamps, free meals for the kids, heat assistance ect and got the 2 stimulus checks but decided not to pay rent.
My DH worked throughout the whole pandemic - no one supplemented us to make things easier. As a matter of fact the additional $600 a week upset me because they were making more in just the $2400 than my husband brought home which included working overtime.
I do not feel sorry for any of them. If you live in a high COLA area like CA, Washington State or NYC - move.
During the depression which both my grandmothers lived through - the gov't gave little relief besides limited rations. Both had lost their husbands and one had 2 kids - the other 4 - yet they survived with preserving food, being creative with food and bartering.
One cleaned houses her whole life and one took in laundry from richer neighbors. Their kids grew up to respect hard work, earning their keep and none were ever on the gov't system. Time for people to harden up and realize that those of us who work hard and have priorities in place do not want to pay for their laziness and stupidity.
