Kirk Cousins, an NFL QB, was let go from being the spokesperson for Holland Hospital. Holland is his hometown in West Michigan where he is loved by many.

What was his offense?

He said that he would follow all NFL Covid protocol rules, but not discuss his vaccine status with the public as it is a personal private matter. It is assumed this means he isn't vaccinated and unvaccinated NFL players have stricter protocol rules to follow.

He seems like a nice guy with all of the local charity he does. The hospital says it sends mixed messages as they need their spokespeople to publicly endorse vaccines.

Sponsors (a hospital) no longer wants to associate with an anti-vaxxer. Surprise, surprise.

I hope he sues them, because that’s not a valid reason to get dropped.

But I wonder if they still paid him in entirety? That way he can’t sue?

Who knew Kirk Cousins was an NFL QB?

What makes him an anti-vaxer?

He just says it is a personal private position that he won't tell people what to do or what he did.

I'd bet money he has been vaccinated throughout his life for other things.

He's refusing to be the spokesperson they want him to be. Why should they keep him on if he won't endorse what he was hired to endorse?

I doubt he was hired several years ago to endorse vaccines that don't have FDA approval.

I didn't say the hospital was in the wrong either.

But you are upset that a hired spokesperson is refusing to endorse what the entity who hired him wants to be endorsed. If you don't think the hospital is wrong what's the purpose of this thread?

According to the hospital it's unpaid anyway. Sort of a volunteer publicity position more than the typical Nike seven figures to use your likeness to sell shoes. Hospital gets some face recognition for PSAs and it boosts his image. But yeah, hospitals understandably don't want the PR image to be a vocal anti-vaxxer.

Basic free speech. They're free to not use an anti-vaxxer for PR stunts. Potentially there's a contractual issue although with if there's no money being exchanged that's unlikely.

Who said he won't endorse the vaccine? He's just choosing not to disclose his status.
