Our military leaders were telling us the Afghans were ready to take over when Tump signed the agreement in February 2020, heard the same thing in Iraq. Obviously they had little interest in fighting and if they weren’t prepared after 20 years they would never be ready.
A force of 350,000 in addition to 18,000 contractors and they folded in 2 weeks.
Maybe some of our military's leaders need replacing. But everyone involved with this fiasco and disaster needs to face some consequences. There was no reason it had to end this way.
Exactly how should it have been done better??? They knew this was coming. They didn't prepare (for the last 20 years I might add)
This is not a disgrace to America. This is on them for not being better prepared
Leaving behind equipment, weapons, and thousands of people is what a defeated army does when it's being routed. It is a disgrace. We could have maintained troops there enough to evacuate everything and everyone safely. We should have done the pullout before the fighting season began there. That was why we had an original deadline of May instead of a summertime deadline. The next time we have a war somewhere, locals will know not to cooperate with us. We will abandon them.

They should have begun evacuating the people who helped the US, ie.,translators, etc. who are now in grave danger, in stages starting months ago. They should have ensured they got out our military equipment out prior to full withdrawal. That equipment including helicopters, weapons, etc. is now owned by the Taliban.

If they started drawing down equipment last year it would have escalated the panic. The Afghan Army has taken heavy losses for months.
But there are two ways to remove yourself from danger in front of a hungry lion.
You can turn and run like heck. Not good.
Or,
You can slowly back away while doing what you can to look unappetizing..
So there is a right way and a wrong way.
Hmmm. Do you think President Biden picked the right way or wrong way?
Everyone looks like a tasty treat from the bunker.
Biden builds his legacy!!
What are you talking about? The right way to withdraw from a country is to remove all civilians and the equipment you can remove and then withdraw the troops. Not remove the troops and leave the equipment and civilians to fend for themselves.
What part of this do you Biden fans not understand? It's been repeated ad nauseam.

Illegal immigration is not part of this topic.
Very little seems to be mentioned of the 300,000 Afghan army that we trained and gave equipment to, they didn't want to defend their own country against the Taliban. It makes sense our president didn't want our own citizens to stay and risk their lives after realizing that.
People are blaming Biden because the way he did this is his fault. You never leave civilians behind before withdrawing troops.
And the majority are saying we needed to leave because if the Afghans don't want to fight for themselves, we shouldn't be losing men and women fighting for them. Did you miss the multiple posts saying this?

If the Afghans are unwilling to fight for their country, why should Americans be doing it for them? Its been almost two decades, lots of our tax dollars, and American lives were sacrificed. Enough is enough.
Both sides, Democrats and Republicans, carry the blame for extending this war over and over again expanding the scope of the mission.

Way to go, Joe.
This cannot be repeated enough.

This reminds me of a similar situation here in America. I don't remember exactly, but it has something to do with our government going after people who worked with someone they don't like. Now who was that?
