We won't hit 90% in the US even if we did not have all the political resistance. Maybe 80% is attainable with widespread mandates and that would be enough to limit all the social and economic disruption of rounds of infection. But then there is still the problem of the billions of people in the rest of the world ginning up new variants.

What does "heard immunity" mean when the vaccinated can spread the disease?

This is obsolete in light of the latest CDC guidance.

So once Gamma is here in full force, will they push for 100 percent vaccination rates or a no-go?
They are guessing. This is a new virus to humans. They can't see the future yet they talk as if they do.

There is no herd immunity if vaccinated people can catch it and spread it.
There is no herd immunity if the virus keeps mutating and bypasses the vaccine.

The flu mutates. The common cold mutates. You can't get herd immunity with those.

It appears they are experimenting with and attempting to modify virulent organisms. However, I would assume that the Wuhan leak was accidental. Had they been using this as a bio-weapon test run, they would have released it elsewhere.

It means the mass-vaccinated are a breeding ground for vaccine-resistant mutations.

Assuming that is where it came from, it is coming back to bite them now. They lie about the numbers, but anecdotally the delta variant is spreading rapidly in China. Their traditional-science vaccine is not going to work well against it. Of course, that could just mean new variants that will sweep the globe coming out of China.

While we all might justifiably take some schadenfreude over this development, we should keep in mind that economic disruption in China is going to hit all of us here too with shortages of just about everything possible. Better buy your Christmas presents now.

This right here. If everyone had been listening to the science instead of particular scientists this might have been understood. The lack of emphasis on finding multiple treatments is beyond frustrating.

Herd immunity is impossible with covid. It is a respiratory virus that mutates rapidly a d the supposed vaccine e does not prevent cases, only severity. It also has both animal and human reservoirs. We have never eliminated flu or colds. We need to get real and stop buying into these false narratives.

This is the reality from a doctor. Worth six minutes of your day. https://youtu.be/auSox6ybZD8
