People on FB (White people) were all like "Hey! Give me a list of black businesses in the area! I want to give my money to each one!" While the intentions are of course good, it reeks of desperation to make themselves not look racist.
I'm all about eliminating racism, but this feels way over the top. Especially because they can easily google it instead of asking people on Facebook. Its almost like they are fishing for replies like "Oh you have such a huge heart! I love that you are not racist!"
If I go to a business that I like and the owner happens to be black, then great. If they happen to be Asian, great. If they happen to be white, great. I don't need to go out of my way to find a black owned business to prove I'm not racist.
What's wrong with making it a point to support black businesses right now? It is a lot more tangible than putting a black square on your profile pic. Black people have been locked of the economy in many ways - this is a direct action you can take to help us get in.

Oh this annoys me too. My social media is filled with this stuff: list of black restaurants, a list of ways to check your privilege, reading about white fragility. I can't wait for it to be over. Maybe when COVID comes back after these protests, we can read about #stayhomesave lives again.

Exactly. Here in LA, it gets a lot of rep fro Mexican food. But I realized I don't think I've ever gone to a black establishment. Maybe I did but didn't realize.
I have access to a studio owned by my friend who is black. So for me, they saw the work I can do, so I feel so should give back.
Most of my life my best friends have been black tbh.

Nothing wrong with it, people can choose where they want to spend their money. The virtue signalling as described by the OP is the annoying bit.
What's wrong with making it a point to support black businesses right now?.
Believe it or not, it’s possible for people to support black businesses without advertising their intentions to the world.
Now if you’re ok with reverse racism, race pandering, empty gestures to imply we blacks need special treatment to prosper, and are seeking attention then have at it. It’s a free country.
People can spend their money as they please. You’re simply making assumptions about others people’s motives. They’re likely using the quickest way to obtain the information.
