According to a CDC report released a few days ago, those who've had COVID are "twice as likely to get reinfected than those who get vaccinated."
Residents "infected with COVID in 2020 experienced a reinfection between May and June of 2021. That's the same time the Delta variant intensified across the country."
Hope Texans get the help their governor is asking for.
There is a persistent myth that a prior infection provides future immunity despite there has never been any certainty about the durability of immunity from a prior infection.
Trump was vaccinated in early January, just 3 months after being hospitalized. It is reasonable to assume a sitting President receives the most up to date medical advise. While it is obvious Trump ignored medical counsel before being infected, it’s likely the experience is not one he wishes to risk again.
I would not be surprised if both Trump and Biden recieved booster shots given their age.
oh good grief
When the over the top efforts to control others fails then you people resort to spreading b.s.
I wear a mask, I social distance, etc. I do those things because it's right for me, unlike those on the left who, so it seems, only do it because they are told to do it by their political parent figure.
Since the majority of blacks have been refusing the vaccine, and there are probably those who don't mask up either, are you eager for them to die off too?
This is deflection. I don't see any black politicians or Democratic governors or Democratic led legislatures blocking the efforts of schools and businesses to protect themselves.
We do see that many blacks in the south have been told the lies about 'chips' and 'magnetism' in the vaccines, those stories came at them from sources outside the community. Minorities may be misled by RWNJ propaganda and lies, but they are not actively stopping other people from protecting themselves.
Plus, the majority of the people in these hotbed red states who are unvaccinated ARE white Evangelicals or white Republicans (two groups with a very high degree of convergence) and these are also the people who influence Republican politicians and control the political power in the hot zones today.
The solution is in their Republican white Evangelical hands, but they continue down this crazy path and jeopardizing people's lives.

Yeah you are wrong. Blacks and Hispanics make up the majority of unvaccinated.

No, it wasn't a failed analogy.
It is known that people who take care of their bodies have a better chance of surviving covid if they get it. So, that poster just might be correct in thinking the government might go even further in their attempts to control the masses.

your choice not to wear a mask does not just put you at higher risk, it also does this for those around you.
That line of reasoning is silly. I wear a mask to protect myself first, everyone around me secondary. No doubt just about everyone does it to protect themselves, well except those who parrot the nonsense of 'you wear a mask to protect others, not yourself'...as we'd seen posted here often.

Not driving under the influence?
I mean, if they remove that law, people can still drive sober where your children play, it only means they don't have to. You OK with that?
(For the 80 millionth time, the mask is not just to protect you, it's to protect everyone, including the vulnerable.)
How do you feel about Abortion? Maybe late-term abortion should be legal too. You don't have to get one, right?
Think about what you are saying. Think hard, and then let us know if you really believe it should be a personal choice to engage in activities that elevate risk to others who don't have a choice in your behavior.
Well this was coming. It was inevitable, as soon as the Republican governors tried to please the Trump cult of idiocy. I'm sure the other states will try to help, but if you're going to keep shooting yourself in the foot, this was bound to happen. On the other hand, he does get to blame the other states for not saving his arse.
People came from all over the US to help NY in their time of need.
No hurt asking.
abbott didn't even 'ask for help from other states'. the thread title is a lie.
"The Republican governor has directed the Texas Department of State Health Services to use staffing agencies to find additional medical staff from beyond the state's borders as the delta wave began to overwhelm its present staffing resources.'
I can reach only one logical conclusion. He wants us Texans to get sick and die. That includes the kids, which now comprise 19% of cases, since no one is permitted to issue mask mandates, not even school districts, and masks are the one simple step that slows the spread of the virus more than anything else if a person can't be vaccinated. Now Abbott is seeking the assistance from other states to combat the spread of the virus that were directly the result of his legal threats. What happened to the GOP mantra refusing outside help? "Leave it up the states. We know best," they say. Until they mess up. Then they plead for help. Other states have their own problems and mask mandates and the states with high numbers are, surprise surprise, TX and FL, the only states without these.
Some school districts have decided to face the legal consequences and issue mask mandates anyway to protect their kids, especially since virtual learning is not an option in most districts (because of an executive order issued by Abbott requiring an in-person learning option in all districts no matter how bad the virus gets.) Good for them.
If Biden closed the borders that is the biggest help one can ask for.. but Biden doesn't give a damn about Texas or the people. Go to the root cause of it all. 400 thousand covid infected illegals came over the border already.
