So the truth, in the form of facts, is not important to you? That seems a bit odd.

Or do we need fact checkers at our parties and in our homes telling us what to say and what they claim is true or not? That is absurd and un-American. And just as absurd to do that online as well.
The bold portion is certainly true, and I agree with you.

However, isn't checking facts also a form of free speech? Isn't reading what fact checkers publish also a form of free speech? What is wrong with calling people on their nonsense? Why do you not want accurate truth to be freely available?

Don't worry, they'd steal it either way. But I guess at least you'd cover their butts

I don't mind people speaking their minds. I don't mind people who think for themselves and fact check.

What I do mind is a company censoring people's posts. People have the right to say what they want, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

And "facts" brought in by fact checkers are not guaranteed to be correct.

He might be referring to people who spread information that doesn't match the facts being kicked off of social media platforms. I don't go on FB much but every time someone posts something about the vaccine (for or against) it there is a fact check under it.

Being an apostate I can certainly understand information that is against the majority needs to be heard. I'd die on that hill. There is a difference between opinion and fact tho. Something might be your opinion and that's the end of it. When people bring in things that are factual in nature that falls under a different category. Then it's not a fact, it is dis-information which I am highly against.

Strawman.

The problem with so called fact checkers is that they approach their work with bias and that bias results in misrepresentations. They go beyond true or false and apply what they believe to be "context" often contingent upon what they believe to be the motivation of those they are "fact checking".

They present themselves is independent arbiters of truth, which is in itself a lie. Not a good foundation for the role they have created for themselves.

Perhaps, but that is a confused argument on his part.

Snopes doesn't kick anybody off social media platforms, and while they may be used as a source for fact checking, they aren't the people who flag social media posts either.

It really sounds to me that businessmanIT just doesn't like people to know the truth.

No, they just get other people to do it by framing the argument in a particular direction - which happens to be false...

People can openly discuss what they want. These so-called "fact checkers" just but in and censor people. They don't make it a level playing field by letting people speak freely. People should fact check information and can look up stuff. But fact checkers just but in during the online conversations, especially where unapproved discussions are taking place.

It would just be so refreshing to have open conversations with people without "referees". And these referees are not guaranteed to be correct. They define the "nonsense". What may be "nonsense" to one person may be serious stuff to another. People should be free to express their ideas openly.
