FOr all those people who gloated when soviets retreated from Afghanistan in 1989, claiming how a bunch of poorly armed guerilla fighters defeated a superpower. I ask them what did NATO accomplish there in 20 yrs [ more than twice as long as soviets ] ?
Remember, the U.S. supplied those poorly armed guerilla fightes with advanced "Stinger" shoulder anti-arcraft misses. Gave the Soviets fits, trying to avoid them.
It seems like a tragic and pointless waste of life in relation to US allies such as Britain, and for what, so the same Islamic fundamentalist regime as before can simply retake the country and impose Islamic fundamentalist law once again.
Didn't the UK supply those Islamic fundamentalists with money and weapons because it didn't want it to become the next Uzbekistan or Tajikistan?
If NATO had distributed $2.2 trillion (the cost of the war) among Afghans, they would've certainly lived better.
Afghan SSR would have been the best option for afghans albeit quite an imperfect one
Yes, at least the women would be treated better if it was under communism. Now they have to cover all their body and not allowed outside unless they have permission by their husband or male guardian.
That’s incorrect. No one has treated Afghanistan worse than the Taliban.
Your response makes zero sense, lol.
I stated:
"The Soviets treated it worse than we treated Vietnam;"
Context in my post being how we both treated the war, the motivation, politics, support, etc., not how the country was treated. Plus, I did not even compare the Soviets to the Taliban in regards to treatment of Afghans.
"The Soviets treated it worse than we treated Vietnam;"
Again, that’s incorrect.
You don’t seem to understand that the people of Afghanistan don’t care about your pissing match with the Soviets, or what we did to Vietnam, which was far worse.

Agent Orange is a herbicide and defoliant chemical, one of the "tactical use" Rainbow Herbicides. It is widely known for its use by the U.S. military as part of its herbicidal warfare program, Operation Ranch Hand,
The government of Vietnam says that up to four million people in Vietnam were exposed to the defoliant, and as many as three million people have suffered illness because of Agent Orange,
