The Taliban pretty much had their way whether we were there or not. There were Afghans who were our friends --- during the day. The Taliban could mostly do as they wished. The population knew that we would eventually be gone...and there was money to be made while we were there ...that is the history of the place. We could have stayed another 20 years with no change.
