Too bad it wasn't exterminated back during the crusades. We could have avoided the dark ages and achieved so much.

We can’t let the Constitution stand in the way of war profiteering.

Eh, not what I learned. The USA back then purposely helped create, train and arm the Middle East to attack the USSR and destabilize their empire.

Same thing happened when the U.S. forces left South Vietnam in 1973. Communist forces ended the war by seizing control of South Vietnam in 1975, Republicans are using what's happening in Afghanistan as a photo-op to discredit Biden. U.S. forces couldn't remain in Afghanistan forever.

Biden sends 5,000 troops to Afghanistan as the Taliban captures key northern city

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world...ity/ar-AANkfa7

Quote:
President Joe Biden announced Saturday that he has authorized the deployment of 5,000 troops to Afghanistan to ensure "an orderly and safe" drawdown and evacuate U.S. personnel as well as Afghans who helped American troops as Taliban militants continued to make rapid territorial gains across the country.

Something "Dopey and Giggles" should have thought about earlier

Quote:
Biden's decision to send more forces comes as the Taliban seized control of the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif, the country's fourth largest city, dealing another blow to the besieged Afghan government. The militant group now controls about 24 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces, quickly encroaching on the capital, Kabul.
The fighting has triggered a humanitarian crisis that has forced tens of thousands of Afghans to flee their homes as Taliban insurgents continue to capture large parts of the country, including Herat and Kandahar, the country's second- and third-largest cities.

The Taliban is now in Kabul. The Taliban, US, the Afghan government, and the warlords apparently have had a deal since Doha for a peaceful turnover of the government. Government forces and the militias that were defending the cities have abandoned their posts.

how is the Taliban advancing fast?

There have been rumblings that the Taliban would include the current government when the new one is formed.

In 48 hours, the Afghan president is expected to relinquish control of the capital to the Taliban who are waiting for the foreign embassies, mainly NATO, to complete their evacuation.

The Taliban and the Afghan government talk 'transition of power' as country remains on the brink of Taliban takeover
According to Al Arabiya, Kabul will be handed over to the Taliban and an interim government led by the group will be formed, adding Afghanistan's President Ghani will resign. Three Afghan officials had confirmed on Sunday to the AP that the Taliban have started entering the capital of Kabul from all sides. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the Taliban to immediately halt their offensive. Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani said “remobilizing the Afghan security and defense forces is our top priority,” in a televised address on Saturday. President Biden has approved the deployment of an additional 1,000 troops to ensure "an orderly and safe drawdown of US personnel and other allied personnel" ahead of the scheduled withdrawal of the US and NATO from Afghanistan by August 31.
