He sounded like he was doing an Elmer Fudd impersonation. But that's racist in woke world.

Jack Morris suspended indefinitely after using accent as Shohei Ohtani came to bat

Was his Elmer Fudd voice racist? Ohtani said he wasn't offended. If I were him I would have given one of those John McEnroe apologies - "I'm sorry that he's an idiot." Because anyone offended by an Elmer Fudd voice is an idiot.

non comPost link:

"I did see the footage and I heard it," Ohtani told beat reporters, including The Athletic's Sam Blum, through a translator. "Personally, I'm not offended and I didn't take anything personally."

I certainly don't think it was the greatest comment ever made, but I think too much is being made of it -- and especially because Ohtani said that he wasn't offended by it. If he wasn't, why should others be?

Btw, I think it DID sound more like an attempt at a stereotypical Asian accent than it sounded like Elmer Fudd.

I wasn’t offended by it. I’m not Asian though. I think it should be pointed out that shortly after he made the comment somebody brought it to his attention and he immediately offered an apology on the live broadcast.

Jack Morris is a hometown hero and, from my account, a good guy. His performance in game 7 of the 1991 World Series was legendary.

Copping an accent for a couple of words is racist? Whatever.

He used a w sound instead of r for very. That's Elmer Fudd.

We are no longer the land of the free so we need to quit saying that we are.

Not to digress, but we aren’t the home of the brave anymore either, based on our surrender to a bunch of mouth breathers with rifles.

I listen to a lot of standup comedy, and hear asian and indian slurs all the time, so it's not shocking.

BUT. This isn't Elmer Fudd, and everyone knows it.

This is mocking an Asian accent.
