The US foreign policy has been a mess for decades.

Many of the Syrian rebels that we armed under Obama are cheering on the Taliban and have similar views including on women.

So we are seeking to put in place nutcases to power in Syria in place of a moderate (by the region's standards) Asad, while opposing the same kind of nutcases in Afghanistan.

Perhaps we should be involved less in that part of the world.

Assad is still in power thanks to the Russians.

Turkey though has taken some Syrian turf and let the rebels hide there from persecution.
