There are a lot of old school execs that believe that innovation and collaboration can only really occur in corporate real estate. In reality, There are no in-person meetings. Everyone stays in their individual office for 95% of the day except to eat and use the restroom. Makes zero sense.

But, but it's for the culture.....

Yes, let's all go sit in an office, listen to co-workers bs for hours on end, get on zoom calls, be distracted constantly so we can all absorb the culture. It is ridiculous.

This is what is going on in my office. We have returned to work, although we now have a hybrid environment mix of in-office and telework. Because of that hybrid mix, most meetings have to occur on Zoom. So yes, I drive 30 miles to work, sit in my office, and get on about 3-4 Zoom meetings a day.

To be fair, I do have some new employees in the office and it has been really beneficial to be there to do in-person training with them. Of course, after about 6 months, they should be fully independent. It has also been a bit easier to get together with some of the other people who are in the office and knock some things out. Solutions to problems do happen either way (in office or via Zoom) but I do find that it happens quicker in person. This from someone who wholeheartedly supports 100% remote work.

Other than the commute I don't mind going in to the office. I agree that the benefits of being in the physical building have diminished but sometimes I prefer being able to walk over to someone's desk to collaborate with them. We can't do that with people in our satellite offices of course, so zoom meetings are still a big thing.

I will say this though...my wife is a stay at home mom, and when I work from home while the kids are at school, we are able to become closer, if you get my drift, during my lunch hour. That is the kind of perk you can easily get used to.

We have a "work appropriately " policy. If there is a need to go into the office, for a meeting or something then we go, other than that it's working remote full time.

The funny thing, is most of our younger team members are struggling with remote working. They would rather be back in the office, so they could hang out and work from the Starbuck's there, it's like a social thing.

They have to justify the mount they're spending on rent, some of those leases are looong.

This is so hit or miss depending on what company you work for. We have people in the office, people at home, people who prefer to be in the office, people who prefer to be at home....Who cares. Do your work and you'll be fine.

And no one is wearing a mask on zoom calls so you can zip it about that as well.

It’s why I don’t bother with the office anymore. I actually don’t mind working from an office and I like working together in person, however, everyone else at my office has opted to work from home, so there’s really no reason for me to go to the office and sit there on Zoom all day.

1. Ironically that's one of the things that drug Sears down.

2. Can't imagine people are lining up for subleases at anywhere near the same prices either.

3. I wonder if they will start converting off-space (where possible) to condos or apartments.
