He did that to gain some sympathy. It's sad that his son died. But, his son didn't die in Iraq. He died in 2016 from brain cancer. You cannot prevent brain cancer. The tragedy in Afghanistan today could have been prevented with proper planning.
I thought it distasteful for him to bring up his son who did not die in action to gain some respect from those that lost loved ones. Many veterans, my family included, feel betrayed by Biden's disastrous actions.
Maybe I'm off base, but it seemed like he blamed his son's brain cancer on the time he served in Iraq. That's just not the case. It could be genetic - hasn't Joe himself had brain surgery at least once?
Of course it's sad for Joe. His other son, who seemed to be on the up and up, died. And all he has left is Hunter, who would be a total embarrassment to any father, regardless of his age. So I feel really sorry for Joe regarding his family problems.
