He did that to gain some sympathy. It's sad that his son died. But, his son didn't die in Iraq. He died in 2016 from brain cancer. You cannot prevent brain cancer. The tragedy in Afghanistan today could have been prevented with proper planning.

... and his son was not a soldier. He was a lawyer sitting on a cushy well-protected base far from any threat.

I didn’t get a chance to listen to his speech, but without hearing it, one never gets over losing a child and probably just mentioning his son’s name brought back his grief.

Edited to add, that a lot of mothers, wives, children lost loved ones and my heart goes out to them.

He has no other legs to stand on, so the only way to get emotional is to reminisce on the passing of his son. He can't feel bad for the loss of soldiers in Afghanistan because he literally handed them over to the enemy on a silver platter.

I don't wish for anyone to lose their child for any reason. But he's faking concern for our troops. Can't cry over something that you willingly played a part in.

And he doesn't have to hunt anyone down. He seems to have them all on speed dial.

Commando GI Joe better get his boots on now, a fresh change of Depends, and go hunt them down himself. Our ultra-competent commander-in-chief is our only hope now.

My compassion is with the 13 soldiers who got killed today, and their families.
