Have the Democrats ordered the police to start confiscating citizens' guns because of Hurricane Ida, as they did 16 years ago in the aftermath of Katrina?

NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 8 - Local police officers began confiscating weapons from civilians in preparation for a forced evacuation of the last holdouts still living here, as President Bush steeled the nation for the grisly scenes of recovering the dead that will unfold in coming days.

Police officers and federal law enforcement agents scoured the city carrying assault rifles seeking residents who have holed up to avoid forcible eviction, as well as those who are still considering evacuating voluntarily to escape the city's putrid waters.

"Individuals are at risk of dying," said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of the New Orleans police. "There's nothing more important than the preservation of human life."

Mr. Compass, the police superintendent, said that after a week of near anarchy in the city, no civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns, or other firearms of any kind. "Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons," he said.

The Democrats will never let a terrible event like hurricane go to waste.

The Democratic politicians need to worry about the hurricane and the people of Louisiana and not using this as an opportunity to violate the rights indoctrinated in the constitution.

It's amazing how Louisianna is flooding and the Democrats are using as an opportunity to violate the constitution.

About another hour before the storm has fully passed New Orleans. Some coastal towns are still getting hammered by outer rain bands coming up from the Gulf. Northern edge of the storm is entering Mississippi while still a category 2 storm with 110 mph winds and plenty of rain. It’s slow movement means massive flooding.

Why would they confiscate guns because of a hurricane?

You actually need a gun more in this situation. Or are they scared of more people turning into looters, and criminals when the anarchy sets in instead of just minding their own business?

Well the more people with guns the harder be for any chaos to take place.

Patrick Henry would disagree with you. He (and many others of his day) felt that the preservation of people's rights, including the right to liberty, was just as important as the preservation of life.

And the preservation of citizens' right to keep and bear arms, is one of the ways they can preserve their own life... especially in times of lawlessness, like what they were worried about after Katrina. A win-win situation, as long as the cops protected their 2nd amendment rights. The cops can protect the citizens' lives AND the citizens can protect their own lives at the same time.

The storm hasn't even cleared the city yet. Who is it that is using the disaster for his/her/its own purposes at this point if not posters here?

I hope police refuse to enforce this! (apparently they can do this if they want).


The 2nd Amendment is in place so citizens can protect themselves from the Govt...if police attempt to confiscate weapons....that is the time for citizens to arm themselves and fight. Its the appropriate patriotic thing to do in such a situation.
