Each state should decide on its own rules. Some states can have 6 weeks, others can have 12. Won't the free market decide? Will women leave states with 6 week limits and go to states with 6 month limits? Won't that prompt states to modify the rules?
Why should women not have the right to bodily autonomy in every state?
At this point, women voters need to step up if they want to see change. The fact there are so many women who continue to vote Republican tells me this ultimately isn't very important to them.
That is not true. They just put the American citizens first. And can at least say thy had nothing to do with the way America has fallen with this current puppet #2!
This is always a tough subject, and really no matter what happens there is a group of people that will disagree. Someone who is against it under all circumstances, there is no compromise. Just like there is no compromise for someone who thinks it should be available in all circumstances.
With that said, there should be some exceptions.
One constant item mentioned is in the case of Rape. Specifically, with this Texas Law, it allows an abortion up to 6 weeks. If a woman is raped and is worried she might be pregnant, she is going to take a Pregnancy test as soon as it is possible. I think that may even be part of many forensic exams. So she would know well before the 6-week limitation as to if she is pregnant and would not be barred from getting an abortion if she chose to. So this is really a non-issue for people who think that the Texas law would have an effect on a woman who was raped from getting an abortion.
The other one that always comes up is what about in the case of the life of the mother. Again a very good reason, and yes I think in this case that there does need to be a medical exception. Even with medical advances, this would be rare. But a doctor should not be put in a circumstance where he has to sacrifice the mother because they would be afraid of performing an illegal abortion.
Beyond it seems as if women would be using this more of a form of Birth Control, or a case of deciding they just can't handle a child. But that is something they should have thought about before putting themselves in the situation in the first place. In these cases allowing it, especially as the pregnancy progresses, becomes significantly more difficult if not impossible to justify.
If a woman is raped taking a pregnancy test immediately will not tell her if she is pregnant. It takes about 6 days for the sperm to meet the egg and for fertilization to occur. It then takes more time for the egg to implant in the uterine lining. It then takes even longer for the hormone levels to reach a point that they can be picked up by a pregnancy test. So half of the 6 week limit is up before there is even a chance of getting a positive test result. Then add in time to make appointments with your doctor to confirm the test then another appointment with a gynecologist and you are already over the 6 week limit.
Have the baby, then offer it up for adoption if you don't want to keep it.
The only exception is if the life (not just the health) of the mother is in significant danger.
ANY pregnancy can affect the health of the mother, and makes far too easy an excuse.
Rape/incest? Horrible. But you can't be un-raped, its trauma will stay with you for the rest of your life, whether you decide to kill the baby or not. Abortion is NOT a "solution" to rape. And the rape was not the baby's fault. See 2nd and 3rd lines above.

Easy for you to say. Walk a mile in someone’s else’s shoes.
