You'll recall that Ahmad Shah Massoud was the charismatic leader of the Afghan resistance fighters, known as the "Lion of the Panjshir," who was assassinated just before 9/11.

I just learned about a month ago that he has a son, now 32, unfortunately named Ahmad Massoud. In theory, this could have been a big deal, if he could attract attention and support based on name recognition. However, it implies that he's been sitting around not doing much for the last decade, not getting involved with helping Afghanistan in any prominent way until he suddenly surfaced now.

How about we just let the Afghan people figure out their country.

That's impossibly self-centered, or just naive. I wonder how many items most people have in their homes that depend on work or export from other countries, or whose salary depends on deals with other countries, or how often our own security or stability depends on what's going on elsewhere in the world.

Maybe you don't care what goes on beyond your doorstep, but most people are interested in what's going on elsewhere.

Afghanistan has no industry to export anything into your home. Zero.
Their Li ores are super hard to mine and logistics of transportation and getting it out of the country - safely - are exceeding possible profit.
Otherwise, they have nothing else of interest for you.
Unless, you are interested in - shhhh - opium. And hash. Or plan. Same difference. Best hash quality in the world, one of the best opiums. But, you are late to the party. Just like Taliban, that is controlled by Pakistan and Windsors. Ooops. Late here too.
