I can't stop thinking about this one! I wanna be your dog!
Iggy Pop had several songs that would be objectionable. He was a "wild one". Unfortunately, many of these bands with questionable content were a riot to see, as they played in small venues and interracted with the crowd (sometimes fighting or trading insults). The Dead Kennedys were good examples of that as well as Teenage Head.
As I noted before, "C*ck In My Pocket" off the Metallic K-O Album would be a "no-no".
As before as well, Patty Smith's 2nd best song "Rock and Roll Ni*ger" is a great song, but did not get much air play (and never will) simply due to content.
My take, and personally, I don't think this makes the song racist, at all. But maybe the line about Neil Young?
Neil wrote 'Southern Man' about racism and slavery in the south, and how the south needs to pay Black people back for their horrible past.
And here in this song, they are basically saying "F.U. Neil. Southern man don't need you around anyhow."
Again, I dont think this makes Sweet home Alabama a racist song, but I think we have come to a point where many leftists would.
Quote:
Southern man, better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man
I saw cotton and I saw black
Tall white mansions and little shacks
Southern man, when will you pay them back?
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long? How?
Southern man, better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man
Lily Belle, your hair is golden brown
I've seen your black man comin' round
Swear by God I'm gonna cut him down
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long? How?
Neil's a whiny leftist, never liked his music, and I'm not a Lynryd Skynrd fan either, but it was funny that they fired back at Neil with Sweet Home Alabama.

He is a whiny leftist.
....and a musical genius.
If I only listened to music that didn't involve a whiny leftist performer, I would be missing out on a lot of great music.
Songs that still can be produced today: "Cop Killer" by Ice T.
There was so much uproar over this album when it came out. If I remember right, some places like Walmart wouldn't even carry it and I think Body Count eventually released the album without that song. But yeah, if it were released today I don't think anyone would care.
