The first amendment is a brilliant shining beacon of freedom. We change it at our peril.

Definitely could use some strengthening for individual liberties. Things like asset forfeiture & massive [redacted] internet surveillance of the public need to be ended. With license plate scanning and cell tower stingrays in addition to internet surveillance by the [redacted] all our rights are eroding.

What is the point to this thread? Constitution and the First are empty words as of the last few years. Every more or less higher level dignitary does as he wants. President does what he wants, governors do as they want, media giants do as they want, business owners do as they please, school boards do something else, so what's the point to discuss some ephemeric philosophical concepts that have nothing to do with reality?

We need to dissolve the union and create two/three nations. We no longer share the same moral compass, the same values, or even common goals and opinions on laws.

If libs want to create their own crazy sets of lawns and a woke constitution then so be it. Live in the soviet socialist republic of California or people's republic of New England then so bit. Outside of those areas: stay off my lawn

If the Texas abortion bill passes muster with the courts, there will be no need to modify the 1st, 2nd or any other amendment. All that need be done is a state to pass a law outlawing whatever speech they don't like and then forbidding the state or any government to enforce it - at the same time allowing any citizen to bring a civil suit for breaking the law. Messy constitutional problems solved!

Until one of these three things happen, the gun control debate will continue indefinitely.
The gun debate will continue as long as there are guns in civilian hands. It's not about safety or crime. It's about political power. That's ALL that the debate is about.

Mao said, "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." He was right. Political power is force. That's ALL it is. If you have political power, you have the power of government, which uses force to ensure compliance. Ultimately, that force comes down to physical force. Try not paying your taxes, then ignoring the letters and then ignoring the asset seizure notices, then defending your property when they come to take it from you. They'll bring guns.

A gun is a force equalizer. Whether you're a 22 year old weightlifter or a 90 year old paraplegic, if you have a gun, you can match or best any level of force used against you. Without the gun, you're at the mercy of those with the ability to overpower you, and anyone with a gun can do that.

That's what the whole gun debate is about, and anyone who listens to what they say, and also WATCHES what they do, looks at the statistics and understands where the gun deaths are coming from understands that it's not about the things they say it's about. It's about shifting more and more of YOUR political power to them.

Don't jump to conclusions.

I am against the part of the 25th amendment that allows the VP who becomes the president through succession, to handpick another VP. That new VP was never elected by the people, yet can become president.

This scenario was made possible by the 25th amendment. Prior to that, the Constitution required the VP position be left vacant until an election can be held. The Founding Fathers wanted a government by the people and for the president to have been elected by the people.

You are right, but ultimately, the govt is FRIGHTENED of the public with guns...this is very clear, considering the ATF class 3 firearm laws that tightly restrict civilians owning full automatic weapons (look at how tough the punishments are for breaking those laws!!!)...govt is VERY VERY scared of the public!

Ah yes, we can't forget the 37th amendment establishing the right to chop up a child the day before it is born. The Texas law flagrantly violates that amendment.

Brilliant.

I certainly don't feel secure watching Billie Joe Jim Bob walking around in public carrying an AR-15 assault rifle while waiving a rebel flag in the other hand.
