There are converging narratives out there, and it's looking almost inevitable that they're going to collide.

First is whether or not the United States funded gain of function research in Wuhan. The FOIA request story which broke today has removed most, if not all doubt. That's looking like it'll eventually be confirmed. Probably soon.

Second is whether or not the SARS-COV-2 virus escaped from the lab in Wuhan. That's also looking more and more likely as more information bubbles up.

The third depends on the second being the case, and that's if the virus was engineered using gain of function technology. Also looking likely.

If/when all these things come together into a single accepted truth, what will the response be?

Back when this all started, I had concerns that China seeding the world with this while shutting down their own country to traffic from Wuhan could have been justification for war.

Now I have concerns that the U.S. could catch at least some of the blame. If that happens, I don't expect anyone to attack us, but they'll certainly have their hands out, and there will be pressure from every corner of the globe for compensation. I don't expect that the same demands will be made of China.

In that scenario, what are our options? How should we handle it?
