He wasn't explicitly comparing the two. But, it would be totally wrong to do so. Those terrorists were Islamic Extremists. The people who stormed the Capitol were idiots, but they didn't have a driving force behind them, according to the FBI.
Terrorists extremists and idiots are all capable of doing great harm.
In some ways idiots on both sides could be worse than extremists. Their stupidity is much more likely to spread than extremism. They could do more damage just because of their greater number.

The use of inaccurate epithets in an attempt to be clever is never a good look.
