Get rid of the income/progressive tax rates. Flat state tax set by each state. Abolish the federal government and each state contributes to agreed upon national items.

Only way if this country is going to survive.

Well of course it would affect the poor much more than federal income taxes do currently - because they don't pay anything at all. Even more, they "take" - now either $250 or $300 per month per child with their government child support check, along with Medicaid, food stamps, and subsidized housing. So they are able to make purchases for some basic needs items as is, thanks to other people's money.

It's time for EVERYONE to pay something toward federal income taxes. It's criminal that fully half of all Americans get away without putting in a dime. People need to understand that when they vote for trillions and trillions of more spending, and pork-laden projects, that THEY themselves will have to pitch in more to pay for it.

That's not a very good analogy. Government is not like a business selling its services to the consumer. If it was, all roads would be toll roads, all parks would require entrance fees, welfare would be nonexistent and public college tuition would be the same as private school.

Government is more like an HOA. If the HOA votes to build a pool for the neighborhood, all residents are assessed, whether they like to swim or not. And if you own multiple lots, you might be charged more than someone who owns one lot.

Maybe. Just remember this when you retire: you should pay at least 15% of your social security check and of any capital gains.

But EVERYONE in the HOA would have to pay something - it's just that the richer people with two or more houses have to pay more. The way we have things now, half the adults in this country don't pay a cent toward federal income taxes - and about half of them are not only not contributing, but TAKING from other people. That has got to change.

A simple fix would be to keep the tax rates as they are (OK....maybe jump a point on the top 1%), and simply require that after they complete their taxes and figure out what they owe, if the amount is less than a to-be-determined percentage, they have to "up" their amount to that minimum.

The Alternative Minimum Tax could be set according to a sliding scale: people earning over $500,000 a year must pay at least 5%of their income (meaning we put an end to millionaires paying nothing ; people earning between $30,000 and $500,000 must pay 3%, and people under $30,000 (virtually none of whom pay in and a good percentage who "take") must pay 1%.

For the percentage of people who earn nothing, and have as their "income" food stamps, Medicaid, highly subsidized housing, free breakfasts and free lunches, they will have to pay the 1% on the worth of the free stuff they get from other people. So someone getting $30,000 worth free stuff has to kick back $300.

The Fair Tax which doesn't tax income, but taxes consumption at the point of sale at 23%, & exempts those in poverty.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FairTax

Each year, the percent could be raised or lowered based upon the prior years receipts, & its impact upon the national debt.

0% for first $20,000
15% for all types of income above $20,000.

No deductions, incentives, etc.

People on the lower income ladder will actually receive refund checks that pay them more than they paid in income taxes. If the feds are going to do that, it would actually save money to not tax them for any income or payroll taxes at all.

Flat tax has never made it on the table because of politics not because it doesn’t make sense. Flat tax with no deductions doesn’t give democrats any leverage to play identity politics between rich and poor and it doesn’t give republicans any tax reductions to campaign on. Politics is the only reason this hasn’t made it past a mention in congress.

I favor a single 10% tax with a standard deduction of $50,000 and a penalty of loss of office for anyone who wants more.
