Your friend went to the ER they didn't want to wait for a doctor in the ER so they just went to their PCP the next day. The ER likely triaged him realizing it wasn't an emergency so they were given a lower priority and they probably realized that it wasn't critical.
So yes trying to equate a car accident as the same situation as your friend is really nothing more than "fear porn". An ER is for immediate life and death EMERGENCIES, the more critical get treated first. If your friend was able to wait until they could see their PCP then they probably shouldn't have even gone to the ER in the first place. Who knows how many others were in the ER for minor issues?

Hate to burst your Buble but ER visits are also a valuable tool when there is serious injury to life or limb, which if not treated in a timely fashion, can lead to life altering health consequences.
Considering that a trained registered nurse instructed my friend to go to the ER after describing the condition they were in, it's safe to assume going into the ER was necessary for their condition.
So in essence, my friends situation was a health emergency.
As well, ambulances were bringing patients to the ER and having to be on standby for up to 17 hours due to the surge of COVID-19 patients back in the winter.
Again, this is the reality that people in Idaho could easily face due to their recent COVID-19 surge. This isn't fear porn. It is what it is and should be considered an eye opener
