Maybe I will pay out of pocket sometime in the future, but that's irrelevant, isn't it? It's free now and there are businesses who want to take your money by convincing you to opt out of free but opt in to not-free.

Chris Rock might have cost big pharma loads of money by telling everyone to get vaccinated because they don't want covid like he has, yet he got a breakthrough case after vaccination. It's certainly not the way to encourage minorities or anyone else in hesitant groups to get the jab, lol. The reports say he got the J&J vaccine, but a few months back he called himself "two shot Rock" implying he got the mRNA shots when he didn't.
Jeez, we can't even believe a celebrity regarding which vaccine they got, you have to wonder how many other stories we hear about the vaccines are false..

No, it isn't. Not when you originally said it will not come out of your pocket.

There are people who also think "Buy one, get one free" is a great deal. "Free" has this blinding effect that some can't refuse, all the while ignorant of the fact they will pay in some manner. No one gives away things for 'free', not businesses, not the government. The public will always be charged. If you are part of the public, you will be paying for all the free stuff.

The real shrewdness comes when you pay for something without even realizing it.

I said it had not come out of my pocket.

The government is giving away free vaccine because they are desperate to open up the economy so they can start collecting taxes at the usual rate. It's free because it's good business. Just like using Google Search is free, Youtube is free, Facebook is free, and a host of things are given away free. Making sometime free is a business model. Many people doesn't get that. You'd be dumb not to take advantage of free when it's given to you because it's not often that it happens.

This has gone off the rails. Comparing costs of intangibles such as you mention above, to actual products (such as vaccines or any other manufactured product) is fallacy.

Information alone is not a tangible. How much of those entities do you possess? If you buy something they reference, that's not free.

Information??? Google Search is a tool, built by people using other tools, not unlike a TV or a vaccine. The information that comes through it is just that - information; their product is not information but the Search tool - just like the product of a Panasonic TV is not the TV shows but the TV itself. If you buy something referenced by Google, it's not unlike you buy something you saw on your TV - at that point you're not doing business with Google but with whoever is selling the product.

You can argue Google takes advantage of the digital platform in that they can built the product one time and make available to multiple customers; but what they have is an actual product.

The business model is they make available their product for free to the general public, but they charge advertisers to use their platform. This is not new - it's how TV broadcasters work - CBS broadcasts their shows for free but charges advertising dollar. I'm willing to bet you've never said, "The tv shows are not free!!! Someone is paying for them!!" Because why would you care? Yes, someone is paying for them but it's not you. That's my point.

Yes, quite unlike a TV or a vaccine. Here is why.

Which is what, other than information? Probably why they call it a 'search engine'.

Not that this makes any difference on the subject of the vaccine, but I'll entertain your above theory. I am lumping two paragraphs together.

As to the first of these paragraphs, the "Panasonic TV is not the TV shows, but the TV itself." But you had to pay for the Panasonic TV to watch the TV shows. What other purpose does it serve? That is not shows for free. In retrospect if you buy something on google, true you are not (necessarily) dealing with google, so you think google doesn't cost you anything? How do you access google? Do you pay a cable network or cell phone company to connect you to the internet for a monthly fee? That is not free service.

As to the second paragraph, no, the TV shows are not free to you. As pointed out earlier, to receive a TV show you must first buy the TV (unless you start working your way down your list of friends, which will increasingly become shorter). In addition, unless you have a TV antenna mounted on your roof or some old school rabbit ears, you are going to pay a cable company or streaming service a monthly fee to bring those TV shows & movies to your TV. Yes, someone is paying for them, and it's you. That's my point. Call them indirect costs.

The vaccines have cost millions if not billions to produce. Whether directly or indirectly, you will contribute toward the cost. They are products, and like all products they are not free.
