Bashing confederates is a common sport among libs. It's easy, because they are dead.
One of the main complaints is that they "killed other Americans (union soldiers)". That is true, but the average Confederate's body count is far, far below that of Joe Biden.
Biden killed:
13 marines
unknown numbers of Americans left to die in Afghanistan
dozens of citizens killed by criminals in the flood of illegals allowed in the US
Just think what his body count will be once all the unvetted terrorists admitted into the US get to work!
So before you start bashing Confederates about all the soldiers they killed (Lee didn't kill any), think about your own liberal hero and his body count.

The original Republicans, as well as the Federalists and the Whigs who preceded them, were political descendants of Alexander Hamilton, as opposed to Thomas Jefferson, who gave rise to the original antebellum Democrats. The modern national Democrats arose from the Progressive wing of the Republican Party. The Southern Democrats remained adherents of Jefferson and remained as a nearly separate wing of the Democrats, trying to limit progressive legislation through control of Congressional Committee Chairmanships, until it became clear that the Republican Party was a better vehicle for them to meet their objectives. The Southern conservatives have more sway over the agenda of the national Republican Party than they ever did in the national Democratic Party, post-Reconstruction Era.
The Whigs and Federalists aren't what I've thought about. However, looking it up, it does sort of make sense.
This is how I see where the Democratic and Republican parties have gone since the end of the Civil War. The Southern Democrats were a major force in the South. They were the ones who talked about "states' rights" as Jefferson did. However, we all know what states' rights meant to the Solid South Democrats. It was the party of segregation in the South.
Things started changing in the late 1960s-early 1970s, though not all at once. Several planks within both platforms started to switch. Also, conservatism and progressivism often depend on what people want to conserve or be progressive on. In the case of the Neo-Confederate movement, they are finding, if not more supporters, less resistance towards Neo-Confederates within the GOP than with modern-day Democrats.

I have researched original documents. Those original documents show that slavery was central to the desire for secession. Articles of Secession, Cornerstone Speech, Confederate Constitution. I didn't get any of this from television. Just because you don't like what it says, just because it doesn't make the South look good, doesn't make it "cultural Marxism".
No they were not. However, I think about this. There are many people TODAY who are screaming "keep those Confederate statues up". And there are many individuals who admire the Confederate flag, and love flying it. It's mostly far-right wing Republicans TODAY who are very pro-Confederate.
Don't forget to add the Ron & Rand Paul libertaryans, & the free market fundamentalists to the present day neo confederacists.
The Confederates didn't kill anyone. The Union started the war.
Wrong there buddy. Confederates started the war with the attack on fort Sumter. The union tried to preserve the union. It was radicals like John brown who escalated war with the south and Fort Sumter was the final straw.
