But the population of LA county is 23 times that of Oakland.

San Jose, CA. Also a Bay Area city. Population: 1.01 million people. San Jose has recorded 36 murders thus far in 2021. Oakland already has 100 murders, despite of population of 425,000. San Jose is on pace for a murder rrate of 4.7 murders per 100,000. Meanwhile, Oakland is on pace for 33 murders per 100,000.

Both cities overwhelmingly supported Newson. San Jose, the LARGEST Bay Area city, has a very low homicide. Oakland, on the other hand, is going crazy. Perhaps the problem isn't Democratic or Republican, but Oakland itself.

I drive through down town Oakland every week. The homeless situation there is pathetic. It doesn't surprise me that they had a large number of homicides there recently.

Oakland has been known for it's high violent crime rate for decades. It was like this when California supported Reagan. It's like that now. It's been this way for quite some time.

I think about this. San Jose is part of the Bay Area, and part of California. In fact, it's the largest Bay Area city, with over 1 million people. It has 36 murders thus far. San Jose has been one of the safer cities of its size. It wasn't as susceptible to the Ferguson effect as Oakland or Chicago.

So would those 10 homocides not have occurred with another candidate in office?

Like I said before. This would have happen no matter who is in charged. People who kill one another won't listen to anyone. It's the anger, the "shoot and ask questions later" mentality, the gang activity, stuff that no political party can solve. I've said it time and time again, but many people will never listen.

San Jose has very different racial demographics than Oakland which is the biggest factor in having high or low murder rates.

Oakland has had issues with a high homicide rate for decades.

I don't think so. I don't think Democrats love criminals and drug addicts. No one really loves them. The thing is, most of the transients, criminals, and drug addicts don't vote much. What I do see is this. The current crop of Democrats are showing themselves to be incapable of handling these issues. I also see that many Republicans can't see that locking people up isn't going to solve everything either. We have people getting drugs in prison. There are some homeless people who commit crimes so they can go to prison and have somewhere to stay.
